I got back from a memorial today for 2 friends from HighSchool.

About 2,000 people showed up which just blew away their parents. I last saw Tyler just before he left for Switzerland in 2002. We worked together at the university climbing wall.

A pretty surreal day. And I may be a horrible person, but it was really great to go back as I caught up with a lot of people I haven't seen in 9 years. In fact a whole bunch of us are going out tonight to drink to Tyler & Meg.

Damn, what a loss for a couple of good educated people.

The fact that they died that way is very sad. Horrible deaths happen...they're a very, very painful part of life...if you want to do justice to their memory, try to help others avoid suffering in whatever ways you can.

One thing I like that I've heard is that pain happens in life but suffering is optional. They have died...it's right to acknowledge them and their life. To inflict pain on yourself in the name of it doesn't bring anything to their memory or yours.

And you're not a horrible person in the slightest. The tragedy of their deaths doesn't mean that the coming together of friends is ever a cause for sorrow.

And Sine, education has nothing to do with that. A loss is a loss. It really doesn't matter much who or how.
