Do we still need all the forums now?

Well, it seems that there are a number of dead forums now. Sports I do not really think we need since it probably won't take much up to post about that sort of stuff in the DS forums. Music and Movies can be combined with Gamethought into the Media forum, and Ruminations can be the forum we use for all "long posts" relating to any subject. We used it once for detailed conversations on various things, but most of our detailed conversations end up being Gamethought or Daily Stuph posts right now anyways.

The reason I suggest this is because this type of board can store more topics, activity is down and probably won't improve in the forseeable future, and lastly, there doesn't seem to be much point in having forums that we don't really use, or are only semi-active:

1) Daily Stuph - Stays the same, but long posts should be posted in Ruminations. Sports related posts can be put here as well.
2) Ruminations - all lengthly posts can go there, anything that can be discussed in detail on any subject, this is what the forum was originally, often a lot of game related posts were posted here.
3) Media - Anything relating the the media, this forum is kind of a combination between Gamethought and Music & Movies.

When the Shrine first began, we only had a couple of forums; we expanded for the reason that the existing forums were becoming too crowded; we used to eliminate forums that did not recieve enough attention. I think now is a good time to downsize.

i agree that the current setup is too many forums.

I had a knee-jerk reaction against removing forums, but after thinking about it, it might be a good idea. With a different style board, we'll post different, and we might need to change forums to accomodate that.

But I think we should wait until everything settles first. After we've hit a groove with the new board, then decide what should change.

Agreed with Kupek. Trashing some forums might be a good idea, but let's wait and see which ones first.

I also feel we should wait and see. Its not necessarily a bad idea, but lets give it a couple of weeks to see how activity picks up.

I agree with Kupek. Too early to tell.

Stick a fork in Rum, it's done and has been for quite a while

Probably. It may not even be necessary in this new format. I can always put into the Archive and bring it back if I need to.

Ruminations...

I think that only reason that most people have been posting in Rum. for a long time is just to keep it alive... most of us don't really have anything that interesting to say anymore.

...and besides, the really interesting debates there just end up getting us pissed-off at each other (ie: those discussions about religion, politics, abortion, etc.).

I think that Rum. and sports could go. Most sports posts could go here or in in Music & Movies.

GT, DS, and M&M are the only ones I look at. No hockey this season, so Sports is boo. Too dum for Rum.

Actually, if you check out the posts in the new site, the only forums getting any substantial play are GT and DS, unless people just haven't been watching or listening to anything lately (including sports)

Sports has always been slow. M&M is still pretty active.
