I knew you could crossbreed a donkey and a horse and get a mule, but this just blows me away:

I think the horse family is capable of about as many different breeds as dogs, but we haven't experimented with them as much because they are bigger and more expensive.

This is easily verifiable. Find out how much genetic diversity there is - the reason we can such a variety with dogs is that they have a very large amount of genetic diversity within the species. Humans, as a counterpoint, have very little.
