Is this supposed to be better than the one we've on the PS1?

If that was rendered real-time, then I'm impressed...but aside from the character models being updated and the resolution being better than the PS1 opening, that didn't look all that different.

Your polls available options suck Barret. Anyways, that is not a game, it is a tech demo just like the FF8 tech demo for the PS2.

I'm having problems getting the site to work. I'm getting some SQL errors.
Is this a remake of the original for PS3 or what?

I believe it is real time rendering, and that's what blew me away. I know it's only a tech demo, but still, that's just fucking amazing.

I'm missing an option in the poll. There is no "Barret is an idiot" option :-)

They said they're not remaking FFVII or a sequel, that was just a tech demo, kinda like the FFVI characters on the Ultra 64 a long long time ago.

Or the Final Fantasy 8 tech demo for the PS2 later on.

Actually, there are a lot of people in the IGN forums comparing the PS3 and Xbox 360, and one of the major points made is that the PS3 demos were CGI and the Xbox 360 ones were real time running on the hardware.

PS3 is still much farther away, so that isnt surprising that they dont have a complete game to showcase yet.

You do realize that if they actually re-made the game like that, I would have to provide oral favors to every person that works for Square-Enix?

I find it amusing that Square is running a demo of FFVII to show off the PS3, a console two generations from the Ultra 64, (which used FFVI as it's tech demo)

Awesome. Too bad they won't remake it to replace the crappy graphics they had in the old one. Speaking of which, when is the English translation of Advent Children going to be out?

Oh, the memories...before Square split from Nintendo and started the Cataclysmic Collapse...the "Ultra 64", dear Lord.
Generally regarding this thread, there seemed to be agreement among my industry friends who came to E3 that the PS3's general presentation at E3 was really very, very heavy on smoke and mirrors and very light on actual hardware. Tycho at Penny Arcade corroborated this sentiment in his post yesterday, saying "I don't believe there is an actual piece of hardware called the PS3 at this time" or something to that effect. The feeling was somewhat that Sony had cobbled together the most insanely powerful computer they could and called it a PS3 for the sake of the show. I didn't see the demo personally myself so I don't really have a personal opinion on it. It's very possible that Sony will actually create a piece of hardware as powerful as what they had running at the show - if they don't, I have a feeling people are going to be REALLY pretty pissed off - but when thinking about the next-gens, this is something to consider.

They are coming in later than the XBox 360 with a somewhat more powerful package, so I don't see how they couldn't put together the PS3, even if they don't have it prototyped yet. I doubt they would back down on their specs, especially with Microsoft looming over their lead. They would lose money on the console before doing that.
