We currently have 180 billion barrels of oil in our reserves which has Canada placed at #2 in the world, behind Saudi Arabia with 264 billion, and ahead of the 3rd place Iraq with 115 billion barrels. Canada is expected to have 315 billion barrels due to rapidly advancing technology in the field which will elevate us to #1.

I think I may actually be doing you a favor by telling you I think you're not really thinking very deeply here at all. This is not the topic to joke about, Seek.

Mental, in case you weren't aware, Canada is sitting on top of the world's largest potential oil zone in the world, the Tar Sands. The problem is extraction: it is prohibitively expensive to seperate the oil from the sand. Seeker, I think by the time Canada gets the technology up and costs down for the Tar Sands to be effective, we would have already hit Peak Oil for the rest of the world and mostly given up on oil.

To bring this thread back to the point, the biggest gainers of oil and gasoline in the world are the governments. OPEC only controls 20% of the world's oil. If we wanted to, we could drain them. But that would mean that the governments here (US and Canada) won't be able to rape you as much. So they keep the supply to the point where they can charge the most taxes and people still keeping spending. Simply, really
