Colleges suck...

Well, college sucks because it's school, but what really burns me is the administration and advising departments within institutions. Back in April, I was told my degree program would be able to be transfered to UM St. Louis from Southeast Missouri State, that way I could finish up my degree in St. Louis and go to work and be well on my way to having a nice par-time job up here as a bartender when I'm finished with school. UM St. Louis's advising office decided that they had no knowledge of my previous conversation and decided to say that I only had 87 hours completed and 47 hours to go in my program. The program is only 120 hours, but since most of my degree program classes and one of my math classes did not transfer and there were other courses in their liberal arts program that I needed to take made the total come to 134 hours. It would possibly take me two years to do this. I looked into the possibility of just staying here a semester and returning to southeast for one semester to complete my degree but UMSL does not offer any of the courses that I could transfer down to SEMO. Bascially, it's looking like I'm going to have to go back to SEMO for one more year to finish my degree. Thankfully I was able to call my advisor today and get a hold of him to have him lift my academic hold on my classes and I was able to add several classes which I need to graduate. Only problem is that now I do have to find a job when I go down there. On the upside, I get to spend a year with my girlfriend. I wonder how she's going to take this when I tell her tonight when she calls.
All of this makes me want to yell FUCK!!!

Well, I would agree with you if you were just talking about the Undergraduate screening process; but people who take undergraduate school are going to graduate school anyways, and graduate school certainly is NOT a "crock".

Fuck that bullshit. Go straight to the dean. Tell him that you were promised one thing and given another. Don't take any shit from those fucking Advisors.

I agree...if you can take it directly to the dean, go for it. I considered that a few times when I was in college though it never came down to that.

Well, I'm registered for most of my classes down at SEMO, and now I'm starting to realize how big of a pipe dream I was chasing. I don't really want to bother with the dean, or rather I'm too upset to bother with him without getting myself in trouble. I'll take the easy way out.

I actually agree with Sine, talking to the Dean is the best thing to do. What do you really have to lose? Get what you want, take what you deserve.
