I'm absolutely enraged, but I have too much to do trying to handle my career to agitate at present - also, what's truly frightening is that other people down here seem to be like "Yeah, I'm not surprised" and don't really seem mad at all. We're getting waaaaaay too cynical...

And you seem to be the only one that cares......

I'm halfway serious about moving up there, by the way.

You may find this hard to believe, but I don't mention everything that I care or am concerned about about on this board. Often times I don't want to discuss it here because I don't think I or anyone else will gain any insight from the discussion, or I don't want to make the effort to write about a complicated and nuanced topic.

Kupek nailed it.

Besides, I have no real obstacles to moving to Canada, even though I don't feel the need to trumpet that as an option whenever the party in charge does something of dubious value.

I am a dual citizen, after all.

If you don't feel you're going to gain any insight, that's cool. But the whole reason I even post something like that is to get an actual discussion going, not to say "American sucks". I have tons of family there and have always enjoyed my visits to the country. I don't hate your country, just some of the shit that goes on there. Up here too and I bitch about it all the time.

I enjoy discussions/constructive arguements and hell, I may learn something from it. I may be more of a social liberal, but that doesn't mean that absolutely everything I post is politically charged. Hell, I couldn't care who's in charge, but I do get annoyed when all politicians or people in power do something wrong or against the common good and people seem to just ignore it. Too much damned apathy and cynicism in this world, I at least want to get talking about some of this shit. Who knows, maybe if enough people start talking something will eventually get done. Maybe not in my lifetime, but at least for my future kids.

And I don't think you're the only one who doesn't want to take the effort to write about more complicated topics anymore, nearly everyone here's like that. We're all too busy and too used to each other. We have pre-conceived notions (all of us) about who's going to say what and what each person's ulterior motives are and figure the conversations are always going to go in the same damned direction and no one is going to get anything out it and we'll just end up in destructive argument. This is why Ruminations isn't an active forum anymore.

Why? Don't forget, you'd be leaving everything you know. It's actually quite difficult to get a decent job up here without a specific skill. It's not like it's a freakin' paradise here...

There are a few places in Canada where the game industry is flourishing. Besides which, if this game my friend and I are making actually sells, I may have the money to actually come travel for a bit and see what it's really like.

Oh yeah, there's tons of it in Ontario and some out West as well. In that respect, you can find a job in the industry.

Plenty of opportunities in the Videogame industry in Canada. Some of the largest development houses in the world are here. Also arguably the best game of this generation, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, was developed here, along with other top award winning hits such as Knights of the old Republic and Prince of Persia. Due to this success, there are always new positions opening up.

This has been on NPR for quite a while. Will the mainstream media really pick up on this? Of course not!
