This is the beginning of this country getting FedExed to hell in a handbasket.

Shit.

I REALLY don't like the whole "president appoints Supreme Court judges for lifelong terms" thing we do in this country. Makes me too damn nervous. I can only imagine what kind of right-wing Christian nutcase Bush is going to consider for the position...

EDIT: Maybe I won't borrow trouble. I'll hold out hope for a reasonably balanced right-wing Christian nutcase...boy, I have lots of faith in our president, don't I...

I don't know why, I think our fucking president sucks, but who cares what I think, the majority of Americans voted for him, so I suck like the rest of us. lol.

I've got this crazy idea, how about we wait until after Bush announces his nominee before banging the doomsday drums?

Nah, that'd be too easy.

It's never too early to engage the hysteria engines, Manshoon.

The system is designed so that the judges don't have to worry about trying to play the politics game to win favor over getting "re-elected", as well as encouraging semi-friendly conversation among their peers over serious topics. (It helps to have a good relationship with the other judges if you're going to discuss rulings.)

Of course, this has its disadvantages, namely the fact that they can end their term timed with which administration is favorable towards their ideals, so that another one of their own party is nominated. Of course, this all has to get approved, and the Dems are willing to fight, even filibuster again, to weed out the extremes. I'm hoping that they grow a backbone and not let the Republicans walk all over there, like they did the last time with the appeal court nominees. (I was so hoping that they would ban judical filibusters, just so the GOP can fuck themselves when the Dems take over in 2008.)
