...week 3 of owning my bike and it feels just like day 1, as far as exhilaration goes. Nothing beats the feeling of cruising down the road on top of one of these things, i feel as if i am an even better driver since i have to be so aware. Feeling the road, leaning into turns, revving for the chickies; it's all good stuff.

Learning was/is tough, i've never driven a 5 speed car before and so i had some problems with stalling my bike at first at lights and at any stop (a lot), but i think i've finally got the hang of it. I've learned you just cant be a pussy on the throttle and just have to slowly ease that clutch out to get a smooth roll going. Only a few times have i been at lights with some punk HS kid in his supped up civic next to me, luckily i've never stalled at those times and burned their asses a new one. Note to all of you, no matter what your car is an no matter how crappy the bike (and mine is a sport/touring) you will get burned at a light by a bike.

I highly reccomend owning one if you have cool friends who will teach you and not laugh at you as you learn. I got my bike cheap in the used market and it is by no means the best, but my friends have been real cool about it and i plan on learning on my Katana and possibly getting something else in a few years, but as on now i love my Kat and while she is not pure sport, she can haul ass and looks good to boot.

Just today, i pulled up to a light and an old guy on his hog pulled up next to me with nothing but a t-shirt and a skull cap (i had on my riding jacket and a full face guard helmet), he says to me "How can you feel the wind with all that crap on?" i thought about it and said, "I dont get bugs in my face!" Lol, good stuff, bikers are awesome people.

Ha! Rock on old man, but Flip's going to be feeling the wind a lot better than you do when you come off your bike and lose most of your skin to the road.

I would love to get a bike, but my Mum and girlfriend would team up and break my legs if I ever did. Sigh.

My wife, who was hesitant at first, now wants one too. She gets jelous when me and my friends peel off for a few hous of riding while she is at home alone.

I see a Ninja 250 in her future soon. :)

I loved riding, until one of my good friends died as a result of an accident that was 0% his fault. There was no way he could have avoided it either, no one could have.

That's my issue with motorcycles. No matter how aware, responsible and good a rider you are, you have to deal with motorists in their CARS!

Even a supersized 1800 GoldWing is going to lose against a small car. For that reason, I won't ride anymore.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

Dont let the fate of others change your way of life.

Sounds fun. Good friend of mine loves his bikes, as does my roommate.

Just be careful, too goddamn many idiots on the roads around here.

Yeah, it seems like I have to feel overly careful when I'm behind a biker. It's no fault of his driving skills or anything, but it's just the fact that I'm in a car, he's in a bike, and I could easily kill the guy by tapping him the wrong way. Shellie's was scarred witnessing a guy flip out of his bike and smashing into a pole, instantly turning his head and brainpan to mush. Because of that, she wouldn't dare let me get a bike.

I've heard too many stories from friends, too. Not to blow your fun, but be extremely careful. Like a friend told me "As soon as you stop paying attention to your driving [on a bike], you'll get into an accident."

It's not Riders, or Motorcycles that are the problem. It's SUV's, cars and transport trucks. Often times they just can't see you!

If there were 'Motorcycle Only' roads, highways etc. Then, yeah, I'd ride again.

But I've found the same rush I got from riding by Windsurfing and Rock Climbing. So I'll be alright without feeling the wind while I'm driving.

That's a great idea actually (the motorcycle-only roads)!

Oh, just to weigh in on the safety issue, I don't really know that much about it, but do remember to be careful, Flip. I'm sure riding a motorcycle is awesome, but we'd hate to see you turn from an educated Shrine poster to a prime organ donor candidate in 0.8 seconds or less. Keep an eye out for bad drivers, yeah?
