Best Buy lost my online application...

And Cingular Wireless told me that I didn't meet the minimum requirements to work there after spending almost 40 minutes online and 20 minutes on the phone with them. Whatever happened to pen and paper applications and sit-down interview processes? I think it is a slap in the face to have a computer tell me that I've been rejected. Worst part of all is that both places are/were still hiring people. I've had to reapply at best buy and I have to wait 60 days till I can reapply at Cingular. Here I was thinking it would be easier to get a job retail than cooking. I'm still going to try since I really don't want to go back to the kitchen.

The food industry really sucks, but if you can make it as a waiter in a high-class restruaraunt, it's good money.

I just think it sucks that everyone who is now a corporate chain in retail goes to these online applications and doesn't really want to know who the hell their employees are. It makes the job basically sound like a glorified babysitting position. You are basically a babysitter making sure the customer, who is for lack of a better term a lamb, doesn't wander into the wolfs den so to speak. You would think people who are grown up would grow up, but all in all, we are just children.

Job hiring should be based on more than just an online exam alone. Granted, the online exam is probably a good idea, but not as a sole means of hiring somebody. It's just a way to thin the herd of people who don't know what a computer is, or non-gamers. (If, in fact, it is a technical exam. Otherwise, I hate stupid personality quizzes in interviews.)

Both have personality quizzes. The cingular one was entirely a personality quiz.

Retail's rough, in my experience. Important to have a REALLY good memory, to remember where everything is, as well as very good manners to deal with that small portion of the public that expects to be waited on hand and foot.

ahhh BestBuy... oh how you have fucked me over
man i was suppose to get a transfer from Fresno to West Covina in Fall 2004.... nope fresno fucks me over and loses paper work
ended up reapply in the spring of 2005 at the West Covina one, get hired, work there 3 months thinking i can afford to stay in the area for summer.... nope spend to much on a high maintence girlfriend
come home thinking fresno might take me back, cause they said they wanted to.... nope they don't take me
so I guess i will be re-applying at a BestBuy when I go back to school in 2 weeks. Fuck I need to get out of retail, or find a better retail place to work for....

Man, you either need to get out of California, or make some quick bucks in real estate. Was watching a report on the insane prices on houses over there, just because these fucking retards are getting conned into Interest Only loans.
