So we're thinking about going to Toronto. Anyone live near there?

I work in downtown Toronto and Gray and I live about 50 miles west in Kitchener-Waterloo. KluYa, if I remember correctly, lives in Brampton, which is a Toronto suburb.

When ya'll comin'?

Coming to the T Dot? Sweet.

Theatre is probably the main attraction, but there's a lot to the City and the surrounding area. I know it's your honeymoon, but if you guys are up for a barnight or something for Shriners I'm definately in. I'm sure Zeus can persuade his wife to let him come.

If KluYa is indeed in Brampton, that's very close to T.O.

We would be leaving here Nov 20th, and going back home probably the 26th.

Its not set in stone yet, but it looks like its a definite possibility.

Know of any cheap/decent hotels or extended stay places?

Ohh man, there are so many hotels in Toronto.

I am actually checking out Expedia.ca for a cheap room for next Friday. Basically, if you can book in advance you're looking at around $100 CDN a night for two people. Downtown, if you don't mind being in Etobicoke or near the airport then it would be cheaper. But far from everything to do in T.O.

As we are actually still struggling to lure back tourists, I'm sure you could find a good deal for a 4/5 night stay.

screw expedia, I just used mobissimo.com and found a lot of much better deals.

Make sure the ones you look at are in the Downtown area if that's what you want. A lot of these are likely near the Airport.

Well, we will be driving, so the distance from the airport doesnt really matter

Looks like unless we get some money as wedding gifts, we will be staying home and playing video games for our honeymoon heh

That would be my ideal honeymoon. Nothin like saying I love you with a rocket launcher to the head. To bad Natsumi hates games.

Ever thought about something like Ireland or France since you dont want to do a beach honeymoon? The travel section in my paper always has good deals on trips to those places.

I prefer a place where I could speak the language. I just don't want to be caught in a situation where I have to hunt down some dude that can speak English so that I can figure out how to buy something or another.

That would add to the adventure ;)

Toronto is not inexpensive.

However, if you are driving it changes everything. There are a lot more affordable places just outside T.O.

Mississauga, Milton, Oakville, St.Catherines etc etc, that are within a half hour of Downtown Toronto. You would also have access to other areas of Ontario. I guess it all depends on what you want to see and do.

Yeah the cheapest hotel I could find was some crappy place near Chinatown for 60/night. Id like to be in that area though. It seems to have the most attractions.

How is the area near the College? It seems to have the most "culture" with Chinatown, and the market, etc. Is there an area that you would recommend? I found a decently priced Days Inn on Carlton St so we may end up there.

Any suggestions?

BTW, it looks like we are pretty set about Toronto for the honeymoon, so clear your calendars that week! :)

If you're around Yonge Street or Univesity Avenue on College, you'll have access to the subway system, which will allow you go basically go anywhere you want to that's worth going to.

Yes, I'm in Brampton, which is kinda where the airport is as well. Toronto is a good choice actually although it's not the city it was 10 years ago. Try to make the time to see some of the other cities here and their downtowns, as Ontario is more beautiful than any province or state that I've been to. Paris, Orillia, London, Lindsay, etc all have their own charm and some nice shopping. OTOH there's a lot to see and do simply in the GTA. There's 50 billion hotels here of all types too. You can stay right on the harbourfront if you want to spend the coin for it.
