I think I'm getting better at amusing people over IM

This is awesome for me, because I was once totally not good at making jokes or being whimsical or lighthearted, but I have always really really loved to laugh.

I was talking to a friend today online who was kind of bummed, and so I decided to try to lighten the mood a bit.

For those who don't speak Spanish, "sonrias" is the imperative form of "smile" - i.e, "you smile now!" and "no quiero" means "i don't want to".
[20:29] sxyctangel: lol*
[20:30] aseidman914: sonrias
[20:30] sxyctangel: no
[20:30] sxyctangel: no quiero
[20:30] aseidman914: i will spread cheer
[20:30] sxyctangel: :-\
[20:30] sxyctangel: can you really
[20:30] sxyctangel: im just kidding
[20:30] sxyctangel: im sure you can
[20:30] aseidman914: of course!
[20:31] aseidman914: here, let me get my bag
[20:31] sxyctangel: hahaha
[20:31] sxyctangel: that made me laugh
[20:31] aseidman914: (reaches inside, grabs a handful of something, spreads it around)
[20:31] sxyctangel: what have i said before taht makes you think i am not happy
[20:31] aseidman914: whoops
[20:31] aseidman914: this isn't my bag of cheer
[20:31] aseidman914: (looks down at bag marked "anthrax")
[20:31] sxyctangel: hahahaha
[20:32] sxyctangel: omg.. i let out a giggle and i am in class
[20:32] sxyctangel: stop
[20:32] sxyctangel: dude you are so not normal
I was really tickled by this. I always wanted to be funny and I feel like more often than before I finally get those surprised spontaneous kinds of laughs out of people that I'd always wanted to be able to spark. I have just awesome spontaneous comedy jams with a friend of mine about three times a week.

As a brief aside, rearrangements or alternate contexts for "Mental is funny" are strictly prohibited in all responses...you lot of sneaky bastiches.

On sort of the same track, in March of this past year I started taking classes at the Improv Asylum in Boston. I'd been itching to get back into some form of performance art ever since I stopped singing, and since I'm such a big fan of "Whose Line" it just seemed like it would be a fun thing to do.

Not to mention that I've always thought that my sense of humor wasn't original enough - usually, I get my laughs through well-timed quoting - and figured there was no better way to work on that than to take up an art where everybody on stage is constanly making up everything. :)
