Tort is the one who actually got me to watch the show and I know there were a few others here...for a bit, anyways.

TV is that thing that's like video games only the people on the screen don't respond to your joystick, right? Where they just keep talking and talking, and you can't hit them with a sword? I hate that shit.

TV's actually gotten much better in the last few years (5 or so). But most of it is on cable. If you try and search for good shows on the networks, you still end up with drudge like Lost, CSI, or Survivor. Fox still comes up with a great show here or there (24 or Arrested Development), NBC almost backed into Earl, and the CW, against all odds, had Veronica Mars, but most are on cable now.

I call it the HBO effect.
