I've been looking at the Hong Kong stuff recently, which is about as bad as stuff from Japan but it's all in color so I might as well support/pirate the guys who at least put in more effort. I noticed Hong Kong has a very different world view when it comes to stuff that involves fighting, though.

1. Your name is everything. There's some series that have went on for as long or even longer than One Piece, and one of the major villians come from a family of guys whose children are themed with the character 'No' (common practice in Japan/China really). So there's soandso No Fear, No Regret, No Enemy (which means invinicible). So guess who turned out to be the strongest out of those 3? If your name was, say, Luffy D. Monkey, you're destined to be a scrub in the world of Hong Kong manga no matter what. So what if your name sucks? Well the easiest way is just to say you have a troubled past and would not mention your real name, but people can all you Godslayer instead, since even in Hong Kong not everyone names their children as Godslayer or something similar. Or you can just change your name.

2. The name of whatever your style is even more important. If you're not learning the way of the Cosmic Power you're wasting your time. Due to power inflation there's no guaranteed that your way of Cosmic Power is really as good as someone else's way of Heavenly Enlightenment, but you can be sure if your style doesn't have an intimidating name then it's already over before the fight starts. Note that if you invented your style you can call it whatever you want, so people like Sanji or Luffy would have a signficant edge here since they clearly their own school of fighting, as long as they remember to call it like 'Rubber Godslaying technique' or 'Cosmic Cooking kick'. It probably won't stand up to any real way of the Cosmic Power but at least it'd be better than say Zoro's way of the three swords. That has failure written all over it.

3. More power levels = better. In Bleach it's said the guy who uses bankai first always loses (unless it's Ichigo). In Hong Kong combat is a game of chicken and the guy who uses all his powerups first generally loses. So that's why people have very large number of power levels. In a typical 10 level system you'd expect one guy to go from say 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and then 10 and sometimes 11. In fact you could have people using say 50%-250% of their max power as they power up through out a fight. Now just because you have 100 levels doesn't mean you can power up 100 times since if you got that many levels you usually got to power up like 6-8 levels at once per power up, but if you're like Luffy where you only have 3 power leve (normal/Gear 2/Gear 3) you'll be out of powerups long before the story resolves so you'll be dead for sure. There are some stuff with implicit powerup understanding. For example out of Zoro's techniques some are clearly more powerful than others, so his better techniques can be an implicit powerup when he switches moves (I count he has about 10 moves, so say 2 moves per power level is sufficient for most purposes). Out of most major manga characters, Zoro will probably be most likely to actually succeed in HK as long as he gets a name/school name change.

4. Hard work never pays off. It's true it doesn't pay off either in Japan, but hard work is most likely detrimental in HK. If someone said to be a hard worker training expect that guy to die in the next 5 frames in one hit. Similar to how in Civilization 5 the best way to conquer the world is find some rifles in an ancient ruins, in HK you want to look for spirits of ancient masters or super pills or at least some kind of tome of ancient knowledge that will save you tens if not hundreds year of hard work, and more is better. One thousand years of accumulated power is better than one hundred, though occasionally you can get some overflow issues. Generally speaking don't try to combine stuff that obviously are conflicting, like if you have the ancient Tome of Light don't try to go get the ancient Tome of Darkness. You can always just get two Tome of Lights instead. While there's reward for taking risks it's usually not worth it.

5. Don't use anything from Japan except samurai swords. In particular you're better off relying on firearms (even though they bounce off anybody of significance) than ninjas. Never trust the Emperor of Japan. He's always like The Emperor in Star Wars, and 99% of the time the Emperor of Japan dies too.
