I saw it, and was not disapointed. I went with 7 friends and we knew what to expect and just let it roll and laughed at it.

I am willing to see it again. It was pure awesomeness.

I saw it, too, and had a good time. It was fun with a decently full rowdy audience.

I do think they missed a few great opportunities, though... i'll post a spoiler one later.

Saw it too. Fun movie to watch with a fun crowd. The guys at my theater were yelling shit all through the previews. Good times.

Was a bit of a disappointment at $15mil over the weekend:

Looks like it was only hype and not much else

If it was hype and nothing else then it would have made a ton this weekend, but get terrible reviews and quickly die.

What you probably mean is that i guess the hype didnt work. :)

Basically, yeah. They didn't actually screen it for critics ahead of time, so the only reviews available were those that saw it the Thursday night then rushed to get it on websites for Friday. So it must have been word of mouth that stopped it. Either that or there was just a lot of noise from a small number of people as it didn't seem to capture some of the casuals like Blair Witch did.

I go with small number of people and lots of noise. Most people I know said they'd never see something so stupid. I on the other hand, respect and encourage this kind of stupidity. :)

Man, I'd love to have been at a theatre where they pulled this off:
The New Line shout-out list, for the curious:

When: Whenever "Flight 121" is mentioned.
What: Scream, "SNAAAKES!!"

When: Anyone's lines end with snakes.
What: Call out: "mother****in snakes"

When: After Sam Jackson yells at anyone on the plane
What: Shout: "Bitch!" for added emphasis

When: A couple decides to join the mile high club:
What: Shout: "Show me your snake!" then wave around your rubber snakes.

When: Woman joining the mile high club sees the snake.
What: Shout: "That's not his snake!"

When: The pilot makes an innuendo or gets bit.
What: Shout: "Whammy!"

When: Woman says into microphone, "Can anybody hear me?"
What: Shout "No!"

When: Woman standing says, "did you hear that?"
What: Shout, "It's the snakes!"

When: The snakes are still in their cages.
What: Demand their release by calling out: Free the snakes! Let my python go! Cages are for criminals! While doing this take your rubber snakes and shake them at the screen.

When: Sam jackson says the famous line, I've had it with these mutha****in snakes on this mutha****in plane!
What: Shout: Get 'em Sam!! and break into wild applause

When: Sam Jackson has a flashlight out to look around.
What: Turn on your flashlight/cell phones and inspect the aisles and walls until he turns it off.

When: Whenever you see a shot of the plane in the storm.
What: Launch paper airplanes.

When: Whenever you see the guy who played Fat Albert
What: Shout: "Hey, Hey, Hey it's snakes on a plane!" in a Fat Albert voice.

When: During Sam Jackson's lines, "You know all those security scenarios we ran? Well, I'm smack in the middle of one we didn't think of."
What: After "... we ran?" Shout; Yeah? After "...didn't think of." Scream

When: During Sam Jackson's line "It's my job to handle life and death situations on a daily basis. It's what I do, and I'm very good at it. Now you can stand there and be the the paniced, angry mob and blame him, me and the government for getting you into this, but if you want to survive tonight, you need to save your energy and start working together."
What: At the beginning of these lines, stand up. After"...daily basis." Shout: Good! After "It's what I do, and I'm very good at it." Shout: You are! After "...for getting you into this." Shout No! After "...want to survive tonight." Shout: We do! After "...start working together" Shout encouraging things and shaking hands with those around you.

When: Whenever someone kills a snake.
What: Make an asp joke: Kick asp! Shake that asp! I bet he needs an aspirin!

When: Opening credits when the title appears.
What: Shout at the top of your lungs.

If it does similar business next weekend and doesn't drop off too fast, it won't be considered a disappointment at all (according to my mother, who works in the industry).

I mean, it's not a record-setting launch, but for a cheesy B-movie? Come on, I think they did pretty well. It was still first place at the box office - beat Talladega Nights AFAIK. Also, bear in mind that video rental on this movie will probably be insane, and that generates nearly as much revenue as a domestic release these days.

I might have to do some of these when I see it next weekend. I'll definitely do the flashlight thing if anyone else is doing it too. And I KNOW I have to do the Fat Albert one.

Technically, it actually didn't beat Talledega Nights. New Line added the Thursday night take of about $1.3million to try to trumpet the fact it beat it, but pre-Friday numbers aren't officially weekend box office figures, so it actually sits about $1mil behind a movie that's been out for almost a month.

Yeah, it would have to have staying power to not be a disappointment, but the way this movie was hyped and the fact that the reviews are out now, I would be suprised if it made more than $8mil next weekend and $35mil overall. Those lookin' forward to it have already seen it, who's left?

The reviews are pretty decent, though. over 60% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Keep in mind that it is rated R, that really limits the audience. A lot of movies that try ti gross as much as possible keep their ratings PG 13 on purpose. I like the fact that Snakes didnt cater to the masses and are doing their thing.
