FF7 had Coca Cola in it and it was silly because that's in a fantastical world, putting something like Coca Cola in it is completely unnecessary and would destroy the whole imagination part, which is important in an RPG. It would be the sole reason to hate it, but it was be a good reason to be wary of it. It just doesn't fit. The fact that the game after you left Midgar became a jumbled mess is what made me dislike it.
It's the mentality. Transformers are big robots that landed here on Earth millions of years ago. There were awakened and some are trying to destroy the Earth by taking all of its energy to use for themselves while others are trying to stop them. What the FUCK does Ebay have to do with that? Why the HELL are we even talking about Ebay when it comes to the Transformers? It's a shameless advertisement and stupid way of appealing to young people that's being forced into a movie but doesn't fit. It's not like the Wonderbread uniform in Talledega Nights, that's perfectly believable since companies sponser NASCAR cars all the time. But selling the Energon Cube on Ebay? Yeah, 'cause there's only one of those and it's so precious.....
Basically, what Crappywood is doing here is taking a popular thing and "updating" it without giving a flying fuck about its heritage. If you care about that thing, like Eric and Resident Evil, taking something and completely twisting it around so it's NOTHING like the source material makes fans of that source material squirm (I happened to disagree with Eric on this one as I thought RE kept enough of the game in tact but updated it well, but that's not the point). I mean, the ONLY thing that's going to resemble Transformers is large robots fighting from the sounds of it. I wonder if they'll even be from Cybertron at the rate they're going.
"Updating" it by having Soundwave's cassettes be discs that transform instead I can understand as kids nowadays don't even know what a tape is (note: Soundwave isn't even in the movie). But having a singular all-powerful Energon cube and having a kid sell it on Ebay is just ridiculous. There isn't only one of them, it's the way they store the energy of the Earth that they steal. Besides, it's not like a human can even carry one. It just doesn't fit what Transformers is. They're simply grabbing some of the very basic plot elements (big robots, Energon cubes) and doing what they please with it.
The fact that the humans hate ALL robots rather than being friendly with the Autobots is fine IMO and it's a departure. But it fits and makes sense (how happy would you be to have 60 foot robots flying around destroying your town?) The rest is just ridiculous.
