Go see it. It's the "sequel" to the Devil's Backbone.... so if you've seen that, you can pretty much gauge what you're getting yourself into for this movie. A dark account of a child's life during hard times and how they cope with it through fantasy. It's pretty much like My Neighbour Totoro or Spirited Away.... but really, really, really dark. Also, it's great to see with any lady friends you have, as their is much scariness. My girlfriend loved it and I really liked it too.

Yeah, that movie scared me too. It was all through its atmosphere and visuals too, there weren't any cheap "I scare you bitches" shock scenes like you get with all the horror movies these days.

I would recomend it to anybody, it is goods.

Bumping this because the movie was that great. I can't believe this was from the guy who gave us Blade II and Hellboy.

yeah but he also gave us hellboy animated which was fantastic. I don't fault him the Hellboy movie which is easily one of the better comic book movies if you consider it along with it's source material. plus it definitely was a fun one. Pans was a work of genius as well

Hellboy was a pretty fun comic book movie. Never took itself too seriously and was a fun ride. What was bad about it?

I haven't seen Hellboy, but from what I heard it was a fun movie, which was how I felt about Blade II. I just never would have expected him to make anything like Pan's Labyrinth. But then again, I've never seen any of his other movies, so maybe I was just pleasantly surprised. But yeah, now it's time to go on a quest to find Devil's Backbone.

My wife was ankerin' to see it so I grabbed the screener (excellent quality BTW).

I have to agree with our resident milk-producer, this was a very good movie. It's a little strange in that it's an edgy fantasy, but that's the best way to describe it. Although it looks like a children's fantasy in the vein of Neverending Story or Dark Crystal it's got some sequences in it that are rather violent and disturbing, particularly the ending (no spoilers, don't worry). It's more for people our age than children, so don't show it to your 6 year-old cousin or anything.

My wife loved it so I'll also second the chick-flickedness of it too. But then again, she loves sci-fi and fanatasy stuff to a fault. She's probably a bigger BSG fan than anyone here :-)

Definitely see Devil's Backbone. I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth yet, but DB was great (as was Hellboy, but in a completely different way).

I made Deborah (girlfriend) see Devil's Backbone before we saw Pan's Labyrinth, I'd seen it before when it came out (picked it up at random) but she had not. It was only at one of the Rogers' in the city, and it was not at any Blockbuster.... so good luck in finding it.

Also, IMO it's not as good as Pan's Labyrinth, but it is definitly still a movie that can stand on its own.
