Superman: Doomsday

Finally got around to watching this. Never seen DC animated quite like this. It's a seperate DC Animated Universe from the Justice League, Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS.

And boy does it have some moments of violence, there's one scene where Doomsay is holding the face of some soldier and the guy screams and Doomsday just cracks his neck like it's nothing.

The overall movie was enjoyable, it was a tad bit short, considering the subject matter I wish it had been longer. It follows Superman, Luthor's constant jealousy of Superman, which unearths Doomsday, the fight with Doomsday, the immediate aftermath, and of course the return of Superman. Again it could have been longer, for the subject matter, however I'll look beyond that, because I enjoyed it.

try what greg rucka did with superman. A good superman story should not revolve around superman. it should revolve around the supporting cast. not a lot of writers got that. really outside of a coupld runs on the book I fucking hate him as well. but the good runs.....Greg Rucka made it fascinating by concentrating on a lot of things other than superman and an issue of his Adventures of Superman run is actually what got me back into comics....just blew meaway with amazingness. and his whole run for the most part took advantage of good storytelling concentrating mostly on Lois Lane and one of the cops.....oh and Mxyzptlyk. fantastic fucking stories. but yeah....The Death of superman was a shit story.....and actually...SUperman/Doomsday was.....decent....nothing good butit's nowhere near as bad as the marvel animated films or the recent superman brainac attacks thing they did.

Personally I'm looking forward to the next DC animated features which actually are following classic comic stories unlike this one which gutted the original (Making it better for the most part)

but the others are Darwyn Cookes DC : The New Frontier which is telling the story bridging the gap between the Golden And silver Age of comics.

And Teen Titans - Titans Hunt which is a classic story from the 80's. New fronteir though.......it is quite fantastic and a much better job than superman/doomsday is

his art looks stagnant and boring unless he's painting over someone elses layouts. it's what made his recent Justice series so fucking awesome. it looked fluid rather than a series of poses.....although his females still all manage to have the faces of men.

I hate his faces and I hate the fact that everything he does is poses. it's lifeless. just because he can do something I can't does not make him a genius. I don't like a lot of his stuff. When I read a comic I want movement and life, not stagnant posing. Alex Ross is a talented as hell bastard. but on sequentials....his art just doesn't work that well. I know painters who while not as good at the detail work I like more due to the fact they draw action rather than posing

I liked Kingdom Come, but mostly agree with Chris on Alex Ross' artwork. I find it pretty lifeless a lot of the time also.

I will continue in my Alex Ross fandom. I think he has a rare gift for shading and detail and it intrigues my pedantic nature. No other comic artist has come close to that yet for me.

And manface it may have been, but some of the chicks he painted in Kindgom Come were hoooooooot. Oh, my erect penis. That is all.

I don't see Ross' work as lifeless. I can think of several instances in Kingdom Come where character's faces display subtle emotions. But I think Kingdom Come is great because of both art and writing.

I'll pick up New Frontier when I see it. I've never heard of it - which isn't too surprising since I don't pay much attention to comics, but I do peruse graphics novels now and then, and I figured I would have seen it since it came out.

I assume most of you guys have read The Watchmen. I thought Dave Gibbons art in that was fantastical. I love just opening that thing to random points and reading it when I'm sitting at my desk. Not to mention that the story itself is sweet.

I haven't seen it but the previews made me remember the days of watching Superman after school on the WB (now CW). I still wish they hadn't ended the series like they did but it was kind of dramatic, especially for the age group they marketed it too. I might rent this sometime.

Yeah, that's what I like about his style also. It's just clean, solid, but it can tell you so much just from the art. I've always loved Jim Lee's art because it is so cool and fun to look at, but sometimes it's too flashy for the story. I still like to just sit and stare at it sometimes though.

I'm glad to hear the movie is turning out well. I cannot wait. There are 2 movies I will see on opening night. The Dark Knight and The Watchmen.

And yes, Liefield sucks.

While we're talking about comic art, I would like to communicate my hate over the Hildebrandt Brothers. It's not that I hated the artwork, but I hated the hype around their artwork. One, comic books are meant to have a semi-nonrealistic art style. Two, everybody kept talking about their art as if they were God's gift to comic book artists.

I'm still kinda curious why people draw Superman looking so old. They wanted to do it for the first season of Justice League, but they changed it for the 2nd season.

they were trying to base it on a more comicy art style the designs in all the upcoming flicks aren't being done by Bruce Timm for these but by the origina artists. in the case of this one I think it was Bruce Timm trying to use the style of the artists though but for the next ones I do know it is the original art they are basing it on. WHich will work amazingly for New Frontier as Darwyn cooke pretty much draws cartoons with his style. and they are basing the Teen Titans Judas contract art on George Perez pencils. which......well...I don't know how it will work. guess I'll find out with a preview in New frontier.

they also announced a couple more hwhich is cool recently. they have a batman anime coming up taking place in the Batman Begins bat-verse as well as a regular batman storyline. they havn't said what storyline but I relly really hope it's not nightfall
