I'm gonna watch the HD download I've got here tonight. I expect fifty words from the lot of you by the end of the week.

Very good, but not as good as A History of Violence.

I had stopped watching History of Violence around the time or the really, really hot fucking, so I had no real background for this movie going in save for my room mate's word and a kick-ass trailer.

Honestly? It's awesome. It's simple, gritty, and violent, yet oddly cold in its execution. As much as I hate contrived love stories, there wasn't really much of one in this one to keep the characters human--which may have been the point. The performances are great and the few bits of true violence there are (included the touted Naked Viggo Mortenson Penis fight) are totally spell-binding. The plot twist was also a nice hook.

All in all, it's really very simple, which is a refreshing change of pace from more complex crime stories like American Gangster. It's short, it's kick-ass, and it has a Russian Aragorn in it--I can think of no reason why anybody should skip this movie unless they are afraid of violence, gore, and naked men.

I just watched it (sorry Chris, but I did download it!). Really good stuff. I thought it was more consistent than A History of Violence (which betrayed its origins towards the end), but not quite as good.

Fucking Cronenburg and his violence, though! I, incredibly desensitised even as I am, had to look away a few times.

I'm not quite sure what the point of the twist was. They just sort of dropped it in there, right at the end, and to no real purpose. I feel like I must have missed something.

I was more a fan of HoV than this, but I still thought it was great. The really viseral violence I enjoy a lot... it's not excessive or frequent at all, but, like HoV, I could almost feel it.

I think I'll be watching it again pretty soon. The first time I didn't have the subtitles on through the first half of the movie so none of the Russian was translated.

Yeah, that's the same copy I got. Had the same issue with The Kingdom. One of the good things about waiting a few days after "official" releases is you always get a hard-coded English sub somewhere

I didn't even know the Russian bits WERE subtitled it the movie. It was only when I was having a hard time making out what the Russians were saying in English that I turned them on.

I wish MKV files could be played through the Xbox because it would have looked wicked on a big TV.

Oh yeah, guys, little tip. If someone is ever on top of you, arms extended and locked, using both hands to strangle you, they have no lateral balance. Buck 'em to either side and they'll either topple over, or put out one hand to maintain position.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was hoping for. That's why I just look for the hardsubbed versions since I watch nearly everything through the 360 now

I always though that was just a Russian kill gesture but I'm probably wrong.

I can't remember the restaurant scene you're referring to....old man, getting senile......

Doesn't the turned-around peace sign mean "fuck off"? I've never seen anybody do it into their neck like that.

Yeah, the back-to-front V with pointer and middle fingers is a British version of the American middle-finger salute. "Up yours", basically. But Viggo's gesture looked like something completely different.

Just saw HoV last night and loved it. I watched EP around the time of this thread and should go rent that again, too. Cronenberg's fight scenes are simply awesome and the mood of his films are right up my alley in a serious film. He must work with the same cinematographer.

If you like R, grisly movies, you cant go wrong with either of Cronenberg's latest 2.
