Anime questions

(Kinda bumping this into a new thread...I figured somebody has watched these series...)

Okay, we finished Death Note (another thread) a while ago.

We've been watching Mushishi for a bit (up to episode 9), and it's pretty good, but kinda boring. Does it pick up at all? I was hoping something better for the #4 top rated anime on ANN. The lack of a continuous storyline is really killing it.

Noein is... well, weird. They keep mentioning all of this unknown bullshit (with as much cryptic dialogue as a Star Trek episode), and then go back to a bunch of kids playing. I really don't know what to think of it. It doesn't have nearly the appeal as Ergo Proxy, but is it worth watching? I just which it would start to answer some questions, instead of daring me to continue just so that I'm not completely confused.

Full Metal Panic caught me completely off-guard. It's not the type of series I would ever be interested in, but some of the situations are LOL funny. It sorta reminds me of Excel Saga. I'm at episode 5, and I hope they can keep up with the same type of situations and still be funny.

Finally found XXXHolic, but I still can't get Heat Guy J or Ghost Stories.

Ever find Gantz? That's a sick one too.

FMP is an amazing series. It's one of the few that I bought outright and there's 2 more seasons (FUMOFFU and another one) the series does a balance act between the goofy LOL stuff you're talking about and the serious action storyline that's behind it-- I think they did an awesome job. FUMOFFU is a silly shorter series that's only about them in school (no war stuff) while the 3rd season actually picks up after the 1st and is a true 2nd season.

Desert Punk's another one you'd like-- it's quite an interesting one as well. Ghost Stories you need to track down somewhere; that shit is hilarious.

Other than that I'll try digging through my Netflix archive to see what else I've watched over the past 5 years that would be worth looking into.

Okay, I'm grabbing Gantz and Desert Punk right now. I also got a hold of Paprika (movie) and Dennou Coil. Lucked out on a dual audio for Heat Guy Jay, but Ghost Stories refuses to pop out on the public torrents. (Maybe somebody can start a seed on one of the torrent sites?)

Got XXXholic, and watched a little bit of it, but it seems like the long-limb anime style might get on my nerves a bit.

Has nobody seen Mushishi or Noein? I figured they were pretty popular series.

Is XXXholic about booze fiends or porn?

Neither. It's about evil spirits. Granted, there's a chick with a big rack, but that appears in 75% of any anime you see anyway.

LoL ass... actually now that I look most of those anime are REALLY good. Gantz is twisted and weird, Gungrave is an AWESOME story, Gun Sword is like Trigun with mechs, Ghost Stories is HILARIOUS, GitS is freakin amazing... yeah, they're all great.

If I had to pick ONE out of the G's to recommend... I think it's be either Gantz or Gungrave.... assuming you've seen GitS

Nah, I would pick GitS (the series), hands down.

I think I've watched about a third of those series. How was Air Gears? I saw a few episodes of it, but I dunno. The series seems like it's just about these air races.

I'm not done it yet, actually. I'm watching it on Netflix Instant Watching each time I send back a Witchblade DVD :P

To be honest, at first I thought it was stupid and boring... but once you get 3-4 episodes in it starts getting interesting; they actually have a lot more to the story than just air racing. Something about the Sky King and different roads... I've enjoyed watching it so far.

Also-- the reason why I didn't say GitS is because it drags sometimes and gets boring... when they get into the action and scifi it's fantastic, but too often they're just TALKING for 5 minutes straight.

For G I'd go with Gunbusters.

Well, that's part of why I like it. You get some interesting conversations out of the whole thing, and the political conflicts are intriguing. It's not just about explosions and sci-fi and shit, but a good mixture of it all.
