Code Geass.

The 2nd season of Code Geass started in Japan on Saturday, it's a continuation of the first series that already aired 6 months ago. If you're looking for a really awesome anime to watch right now while the prime two are sucking(Bleach/Naruto), I recommend it, you can find the entire season for download if you look around. Box torrents, etc. It's got that Gundam-esque feel to it with the political and war climate, and the main character reminds me of Light from Death Note, he's a cold hearted and manipulative bastard, but you can't help but like him. He's not a psychopath mind you, he has his reasons for being the way he is.

Either way give it a go if you're bored, or don't! Your loss!

Yeah, I'm still queuing my episodes of both. Probably get into a big batch in the next few weeks.

I was just lamenting at the lack of new Bleach episodes lately... and yesterday I downloaded DB's 2nd Bleach movie which was an april fool's joke (I love a good april fools joke but seriously, it's April 5th-- TAKE DOWN YOUR PRANK or AT LEAST label it as such... dickweeds).

I'll look around and try to find this one, is there a fansubber you recommend?

That's probably the torrent I've been downloading all afternoon. Should be done by the time I get back from dinner.

Guess now I gotta figure out how I wanna stream stuff back to my TV again...

it does say "Reballion"

One letter off is barely enough to constitute that. They should have at least put their troll tag on the front after April Fools.

I watched the first 3-4 episodes last night and so far it's pretty cool. It's just my kind of show and I needed something new to watch-- thanks Eric :) Love shows where it isn't black and white good and evil and you're rooting for the bad guy for the most part. It shares parallels with Death Note but the only way I'd really compare the two is if he used his Geas to force everyone to kill themselves which BOY was that creepy the first time around.

Is this based off a Clamp manga? All of the males look like scrawny, pointy chinned girls.

I've got this, Elfen Lied, and Gantz on my HD, but I can't decide which one to watch. I watched a couple of episodes of GitS: SAC, but I think I'd rather find a dub of that before continuing. Subtitles containing constant political and technological jargon tune me the fuck out.

That's a tough one... all 3 are great. Just pick one at random ;) And yes... I prefer dubs to subs in most cases, and GitS has pretty good dub. Netflix has 'em, and they're on [AS] too.

Gantz and EL are both pretty strange (read: f'ed up), but yeah, they are worth the watch. Out of the two... id pick EL first.

Hmm... Sexy tits, I mean. I did watch most of the first episode of EL, and I don't like gore mingling with tits.

But also painfully long dialogs where they should be killed but the aliens patiently, and politely, wait for the conversing to cease.

It picked up at the end and i did enjoy it, though, DGMW.

Dont get me wrong, lol.

Its a good anime, but slow at the beginning. I love dialog, even when slow when done correctly, but a scene that takes 10 min that is nothing but, "Shoot him! I cant! Shoot! I cant! Someone help! Why? Because he cant shoot! So shoot him! No! He'll die, shoot! Waaaaaahhhhh!" can be done without.

It's not 10 minutes. I didn't notice it to be overly long, because the tension really is there and understandable.

Trinity's death scene in the Matrix...yeah, that was overly long.

It does have that on occasion, but at least not NEARLY to the level of Evangelion angst.

Yes, a full minute of absolutely nothing, as if your VCR is stuck in frame, is just that. That sort of thing doesn't work if it isn't filled with actually dialogue or inner monologue.

I finished the first season of Code Geass the other night... and DAMN. Definitely one of the better animes out there, and HOLY FUCK @ the last few episodes.

How far in is season 2 and where do I find it?

Highest quality, bottom of the page, release slow as hell though.

Also good quality, best translations of the groups that release relatively fast.

Those guys actually release the highest quality Macross Frontier ones as well. Unfortunately, they're .mkvs so for those of us who use the 360 streaming, that ain't good. I just get the hard-coded avis from Animesuki myself

Pfft... 360 should just support MKVs then. Or you can just get a HD PC setup. MKVs are an awesome format.

Eclipse has the worst translation of the three.

Of the 3 groups that release immediately after the episode airs

Chihiro releases first
GG releases second
Eclipse releases third

Of the 3 groups that release immediately after the episode airs

GG has the best translation
Chihiro has the second best translation, though they mess up alot too.
Eclipse has the worst translation, sometimes completely losing the meaning of what is being said.

Censored for those not that far.

GG

CC: The supplies were successfully retrieved at Niigata.
Lelu: I see.
CC: But there's no way to get back to the embassy...
Lelu: I suppose so.
CC: The new Governor-general is --------. Are you going to fight your own ------?
Lelu: Fight? With -------? What kind of joke is that?
CC: Are you going to abandon her, then?
Lelu: That's out of the question.
Lelu: As things are now, ---------'s going to end up a political tool, just like before.

Chihiro

CC: Niigata's resource exchange seems to be working well.
Lelu: Really?
CC: However, it's not possible to come back to the consulate...
Lelu: I've thought so.
CC: The new governor is --------...Weill you be able to fight...with your ------?
Lelu: Fight? With -------? What kind of joke is that?
CC: So you're just going to leave it alone?
Lelu: It's not worth talking about.

Lelu: Like this, -------- will become a political tool again...

Eclipse

CC: It seems the pick up of supplies at Niigata went smoothly.
Lelu: I see.
CC: However, there is no method to get back to the Consulate General.
Lelu: I'll bet.
CC: The new governor is --------. Will you be able to fight your ------?
Lelu: Fight? ---------? Is that some kind of joke?
CC: So you'll just let things happen?
Lelu: That's out of the question.

Lelu: At this rate, ---------- will become nothing but a political tool, just like before.

GG is the only group that got the "Fight with" part correct. Eclipse's doesn't even make sense.
Chihiro totally botched the "Niigata" line.

Kinda lose the context with the missing data. Probably should have a better example than that.

If you're watching the series it makes sense to you, you can fill in the blank.

The removed names/sayings have no effect on what was botched and what wasn't.

The avis I d'load are always upconverted with the 360. And this is anime so it's not like it looks bad even on 480. I have no real reason to convert to mkvs, they're just more difficult to watch. Who cares if they're superior when what you have is perfectly good for your purposes, even more so considering the way I watch stuff?

I've yet to see a quality difference in MKV vs AVI, so what the hell is the point? Is the MKV the BluRay of the video format world? I'd prefer AVI any day; everyone supports it and it's a solid format with no major flaws (just like the DVD). There's no reason to move to a different format until said new format gives me something substantially different.

Better quality? eh
Smaller size? No, it's almost 33% larger (comparing Code Geass Ep 1 Season 1 in AVI format vs Ep 1 Season 2 in MKV)
Extra features? ????

Seriously, what am I getting out of this new format? Nothing? That's what I thought.

It's the H.264 format which may eventually take over the Xvid as it properly supports HD. And I think all mkv does is allow for multiple subs in one file with a small upgrade in bitrate. Great in one way, but for those of us who don't watch on the comp, it's no good as we need a hardcoding to make it work when you burn/stream

I downloaded that BBC special Galapogos in H.264 and tried playin' it throught he 360. It works but keep re-buffering every couple of minutes with TVersity. I hope they fix that with the next update, it looked really nice

MKV is not a format in the way you think of it. AVIs support a specific video codec, and a specific audio codec. MKV is actually a container for all of the different codecs and formats. So, you can have a MKV with multiple audio streams and multiple subtitles. (Probably even multiple video streams, though I haven't seen that aspect used yet.)

Why is this awesome? Well, I can choose from a English dub with no subtitles, or a Japanese dub with English subtitles, or English 5.1 surround sound. Some MKVs actually have multiple translations in the subtitles. MKV is the only format where I actually have a choice between a dub and a sub, or a choice with surround sound. With AVI, I'm limited to only the format that the encoders choose.

So, if you want some BluRay real-world comparison, then AVI is the VCR tape, and MKV is the DVD.

A far more accurate comparison is that Xvid is DVD and mkv is Blu-Ray. Sure, mkv may be better, but ultimately Xvid is enough for 95% of the population as the extra features mkv adds is only really "better" for a very small portion of the population
