I still like this style of film. It brings back that dead era of Film Noir from the 40's (IE Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon). I'll see it because I like Film Noir.

Hell yes.

Looks sweet. Whoever is the star has a very good gravelly voice--it's not over the top, and it's not Batman, but it's still very arresting. Pun not intended.

I've noticed that quite a bit in trailers. The Rudy song gets used a lot, I've seen the Terminator, Aliens, and Starship Troopers themes recycled a number of times, and Disney pimps the Angels in the Outfield theme quite a bit.

Guess if the themes fit, why not?

I just wish the movie fit.....The Spirit should never....ever.....wear black

Cliff Mansel, of Requiem and the Fountain fame, gets his stuff used in trailers a lot.

That is because, he ROCKS.

Isn't that EXACTLY what I said about X-Men? :-)

Besides, you don't know if he's wearing black, the trailer ain't in colour

Not "his stuff", just the main Requiem theme. Of course, that really blows, because that was the underlying theme of the movie. Overuse of it just degrades it.

It really makes me understand what Morrison was feeling when he found out that the band sold him out with a "Come on Buick, Light My Fire" ad.

Yeah, but is the comic in that style? I don't agree with overusing a technique just because it worked the first time. See my comment above.

Incorrect, a number of themes from the Fountain have been used in both the I Am Legend Trailer as well as the Mist (or the Fog...um...whichever was most recent.)

There have been others--a theme from Pi was used, I believe, though I can't remember what trailer.

exactly....and it's not....I can understand making the cty gritty and black and white but even the posters for the movie and the logo have exactly the same style that is Sin City....The Spirit wears Blue....blue fedora, domino mask and trenchcoat....he does not and should never be portrayed in black....the only thing black about the spirit should be his cabbie

then that's totally a shame if they just ride the Sin City wave. Maybe the preview is not indicative of the movie, maybe they are just trying to exploit Frank Miller's Sin City and 300 art style in order to generate interest. (was 300 black and white? I've never read it)

Frank Miller is directing it.....

as I said...he's too busy blowing himself to stay true to what it should be....The Spirit was Pulp....not Noir.....Denny Colt is not a dark brooding character....he's a happy go lucky guy that after everyone thought he died in an explosion decided to stay dead....not to fight crime per-se.....but because dead people don't have to pay taxes....he's happy go-lucky, a charmer....he's not fucking marv.....just a regular joe who could take a punch as much as he loved ishin' em out.....a detective who really sometimes had to me smacked across the face with a clue-by-four before he saw it.....he's not marv...he's THE SPIRIT..

Frank Miller is directing it in the style that Robert Rodriguez directed his movie...

Truth be told, that does seem a bit cheesy to me. But, the trailer is pretty sweet regardless, so who knows? I never read the Spirit, so I'll be happy to give the flick a once-over and not have anything to judge it to.

Man, does the guy just hang out with Aronofsky or what?

That's a shame, because he directed 300, and that was damned accurate. (To the comic, not history, you idiots!) This is the first time I've seen a director not staying true to his OWN source.

he didn't direct 300.....he co-directed sin city with rodriguez......no zach snyder directed 300 and is now doing an almost direct translation (although latexitized) Watchmen.....

And Frank Miller never did the Spirit.....it was Will Eisners baby....and he's spinning in his grave right now

Ahhh, okay, he's accurate to his own work, but he doesn't give a shit about other fellow comic writers. Gochta.

especially when he was supposedly great friends with said creator....The Spirit is one of the most influential newspaper strips of all time....doing this to it is something that should never be done

The teaser may not actually be a good indicator of the movie though. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and according to a quote by Frank, he's wanting to stay true to the style of the series while emphasizing its more "horror" base--something that, also according to Wikipedia, is an aspect that was prevalent through the series' run under Eisner.

So, before passing judgement, I say we wait until we get more info.

I definitely like the look of it (love Frank Miller) and since I never read the comic I don't have to worry about being disappointed and can enjoy it solely on its own merits. Plus Eva Mendes in some ridiculously form fitting costume...AOOOOOGAH!

Doubt I'd actually go to a movie theatre to see it though, but that goes for most movies...
