They sure know how to make a good trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/
I'm surprised at how much I want to see it.

J.J. Abrahms is the "brains" behind it.Kupek wrote:They sure know how to make a good trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/

For me, it enhances it. Cloverfield was awesome and the few episodes of Lost that i have seen have been done very well. The moods, lighting, and use of music of his works fit with what i like.Zeus wrote:J.J. Affect your desire at all?
No, although I had to look him up. My desire to see it is based on what I've seen - granted, what I've seen is marketing hype, finely tuned montages meant to show it in the most favorable way possible. But I have no problem being a sucker for a good trailer. When I initially heard about a series reboot, I didn't care, because I felt everything that could be done with Star Trek had been done. Even if that's the case, there's value in doing it well, which they haven't done for a long time.Zeus wrote:J.J. Abrahms is the "brains" behind it.

That works.Kupek wrote:Quicktime support on Windows has always been suspect. It used to crash both IE and Firefox on a regular basis. Here's a YouTube link (click on the HD button if your processor/bandwidth can take it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0xaCB2nLS0&
I agree completely on the reboot requirement. I thought it was a great idea and that the entire series was stale. I actually liked Enterprise and hoped it continued but people just didn't accept it.Kupek wrote:No, although I had to look him up. To me, the only thing Abrahms could possibly enhance would be the potency of the aroma of my fecal matter. I'm praying this film will be good in spite of Abrahms rather than because of him.Flip wrote:For me, it enhances it. Isn't Kirk supposed to be a legendary in the academy or something? I think they actually mentioned that in the original series. I going off of memory here so I could be wrong but I thought that's what I read when the previews first came out. But I do remember it being in his early days as a commander, much before what he was in the original series. He's supposed to be a lot more raw and rough around the edges. Kinda like Bond in Casino Royale.Eric wrote:What's the plot anyway? Is this just an origin story for Kirk? It sounded like in the trailer he was already a Legend but obviously he's just signing up for the job based on the beginning. Little confused.

Let's look then:Seeker's List wrote:For the record though, look at what Peter Jackson did before Lord of the Rings, Or Guillermo aside from Pan's Labyrinth, etc...
*Snaps fingers* I forgot you have horrible taste in movies.Zeus wrote:My wife was a big TNG fan growing up (I never liked the shows other than Enterprise and only liked a couple of the films) and loved Voyageur and Deep Space (Sixty)Nine. She loves the series and was excited to see this trailer so I showed it to her. The exact words that came out of her mouth were:
"Oh my God. This looks gay"
That trailer was far, far worse than I ever could have possibly imagined. Thank God I don't have to waste money to take my wife to the theatre to see it like I did with The Crappening. The skepticism just doubled.
And Flip, after watching the trailer I can see what you were referring to. Definitely was his dad.
Kup, I pray for you that this trailer was not an example of the "most favourable way possible" but rather the exact opposite. You'd better hope that the rest of the film is far, far better than what was shown there (kinda like The Princess Bride or Solaris trailers that were just horrible). I'm hoping for your sake that this was one of those trailers that was done to appeal to a 15-year by a marketer who doesn't know anything about the film at all.
The reason you forgot is because you know that I don't, you're just following the crowd. I just don't fall for hype and insist on substance over style in my movies. You and I actually agree quite often (Resident Evil and Titanic are the exceptions). I even admitted that the trailer LOOKED good aesthetically.Eric wrote:*Snaps fingers* I forgot you have horrible taste in movies.
