I've always heard the Anime version is even crazier than the manga, and today I decided to look it up. This is the regular series's finale, and I only watch the first few minutes, but it looks more like something out of Dragonball as opposed to anything related to tennis.

It isn't all like that. I liked the anime for the most part. One of the few animes based on a manga where I didn't end up switching to the manga because the anime was going on too damned long.

I think they purposely made it crazier than the manga because the manga was clearly already testing the boundaries of reality so they might as well go all out in the Anime. Though the OAV looks like something that plausibility could've happened in the universe.

Well the crazy stuff in the first few minutes of that episode are unrepresentative of most of the show. At risk of talking out of my ass, I'd say the DBZ hijinx are highlighting the fact that... Okay, no, it's just ridiculous, I can't do it

Prince of Tennis has roughly 4 levels of plausibility:

1. A human can do it (very few examples)
2. A super human can do it (say, most of Fuji's stuff)
3. A Super Saiyan can do it (say, Sanada's strike like lightning)
4. Outside of scope of normal Anime/Manga possibility (say, Tezuka and Yukimura's specials).

The Anime seems to go all out when you get close to the #3 and especially the #4. Though ironically Yukimura doesn't have any DBZ-like effects when he does his telepathic kill stuff...
