Star Trek 12 plot speculation

While it will likely be a year before we learn any plot details, barring any leaks (none have occurred yet).

There are a few hints. The writers seem to really like the idea of Kahn. It was fairly obvious by the preview comics that they also really like the idea of the Borg as well (though mentions of Borg technology used in the Narada were left out of the Star Trek 11 theatrical release).

It is conceivable that the next movie could start off with the Federation discovering the nature of the Borg technology that had been aboard the Narada.

Another clue in Star Trek 11 itself was that a Romulan ship (the Narada) had destroyed a large number of Klingon ships before engaging the federation (something like 57). That could indicate the next movie involving a Klingon presence.

The season finale of season 1 of Next Generation "The Neutral Zone" involved a potential battle between the Romulans and Federation when both sides thought the other had attacked and destroyed several of their outposts. Later on it turned out to be the Borg. This episode could be replayed with the Klingons and Federation. The issue would exist of how the Borg got there that early. They have already played with time travel, why not worm holes?

Of course, there is A LOT of potential plotlines, I would expect something Klingon myself though. I would like to have the Borg as well, but I see it as unlikely. I might be one of the few Trek fans who didn't like the Wrath of Kahn.
