Iron Man 2 (spoilers and thoughts, be warned)

I saw the movie at a 12:01 showing and now that I'm at work half awake and not wanting to work, I'll post my thoughts about the movie.
Simply put the movie was MEH... it wasn't good and it wasn't bad, it just kind of fell in the middle.
The movie had way to many subplots that were unnecessary and dumb. Tony having the palladium poisoning and finding out that his father would hold the key magically to the problem was annoying. The introduction of his father and finding out they never got along, and that he didn't 'love' him was just cliche to later find out he loved him dearly. I would have much rather seen Stark struggle with alcoholism like he does in the comic book.
Mickey Rourke didn't work for me as the villain, especially when we find out that Tony's dad had his father deported because he wanted money... Hello hypocrisy and Stark family!
Probably the part that annoyed me the most was Tony Stark drunk in his Iron Man suit at his birthday party. The fight with him and Don Cheadle was just dumb and I thought that the entire time it was going on.
Also I didn't like Don Cheadle, but then again I didn't like Terrance Howard either
Iron Man 3 is going to have to get its shit together, and The Avengers is going to need a miracle to be good
I realize this is a comic book movie, but the first Iron Man was so good

Too sad. Really enjoyed the first one.

I enjoyed it. I'll admit that the story wasn't as strong, but the action was better imo, so that made up for it.

Yea, that is exactly how I felt walking out of the theater at the end.

I think the main problem with the sequel is it didn't do anything different or improve substantially on the first. Goes completely against expectations

It IS more of the same, but it serves as a good expansion on the events of the first movie, and the action is by and far better. We get more definition of Tony's character, and we get an interesting study of how he functions as a hero. It's not a GREAT movie, but it IS very very cool, and does wonders to get you pumped up for other Marvel tie-ins, especially, y'know, THOR.
