Confirmed.
The project began in 2008 with Joachim's leaving the film industry. Filming began in January 2009. February 2009 was when he was on Letterman. Letterman was not in on the joke.

So dumb. The movie flopped, young Afleck blew all his money on it, and no one cares about Joaquin.

I just found it funny that the year long stunt and weather it was a hoax or not was supposed to be the allure. However, the movie bit so hard in the first week and reviewers thought it was so dumb that Afleck decided to spill the beans hoping it would garner more attention when all it really did was make people not want to see it even more.
Now a movie on Mel Gibson? That, would be awesome, haha.
