Season finale for Empire is this weekend and Dexter next weekend. Anyone watching either of these shows? What do you think of these seasons now that they're almost done?

I've been loving Julia Stiles's presence on Dexter, they're so in-sync, and it's a weird thing to watch how close they are, he's far closer to her then just about any other character on the show, except maybe his sister. Even with Miguel, it looked forced and fake, and we found out eventually that it was in fact just that. But with her, it's been really neat. My only concern is that it's gonna end badly for her, I don't think she'll die, because I think we got our fill of that at the end of last season. But she might end up in jail or on the run or something along the lines, I don't know if the writers intend for Julia Stiles to stick around after this, or if she intends too. We shall see.

Haven't watched Boardwalk Empire, I want to though.

Yeah been watching Dexter and I think it's pretty good. I think Stiles is probably going to end up on death row for the pre-meditated murders and the old cop on their tail will probably get conveniently taken out of the picture, as well.

I haven't watched the last three or four Boardwalk empires because I've been waiting for it to end before I go back into it.

Well, this is how I think Dexter may end
Spoiler: show
I really, really, really hope that this isn't the end we see of Stiles. Her character has become a really great part of the show and now that they FINALLY got to the point where someone close to Dex knows about him, it would be a real waste to get rid of her. But if they do get rid of her, it will likely be as a sacrifice to "save" Dex the way he saved her. Death row? Maybe. But if she's gone after this season, she'll likely be dead. If she stays around, you'll probably see both her and Dex take out Robocop (I love Weller's characters this season) to solidify their relationship with Deb becoming overly suspicious of them both now that she's on the scent of someone like Lumen after the last ep.

I would far prefer that over dumping yet another big character in the show. Seriously, ever since the first season, the only ones that have lasted more than 1 season have been Rita (probably due to her hotness) and Quinn, because they needed a replacement for Doaks. It's time for another great character to hang around for a while
Eric, Boardwalk Empire's season finale is on Sunday. It's a great time to pick up a pretty good show. Imagine Sopranos in 1920 just as prohibition starts and all the changes are going on in the mob world (it was in that time period that Lansky, Luciano, and company changed the mob world into what you know it as today). It doesn't have as much violence (but WAY more boobies; especially Paz de la Huerta, she's insanely hot) but it's a great story. Definitely worth your while. Like all series', it takes about 6 eps to really get going.

The Empire Strikes Back?

What? You can't be bothered to type one extra word? So, did the director of BOARDWALK Empire die or the director of THE Empire STRIKES BACK die? The show is not popular enough to call it "Empire".

He said Boardwalk Empire in the title Sine. You're reaching on this nitpick! :p

Actually, I was referring to another post, where he commented on "the director of Empire" died without said context. In a post where he was bitching about a lack of context in the person who died.

This is where context and pop culture comes into play. When nerds say "Empire", they almost always refer to "Empire Strikes Back". I have never, ever used that term and had someone say "what, [blank] Empire" or "Empire [blank]"?. In fact, no one seemed confused in that thread and no one brought it up. Although it's a far more common word, it's like saying "Fellowship", everyone knows you're talking about Lord of the Rings. It's just a nerd shortcut that's commonly used. I've used it here many times.

In this thread, it was referring to Boardwalk Empire right off the bat so you know what the topic's about. There was no reason to be confused. There was no indication that I or anyone I was responding to had switched references to anything else. Without evidence of anything else, it's pretty easy to deduce I was referring to one of the two shows in the thread heading.

Anyone catch the interview after Shameless with Julia Stiles?
Spoiler: show
Sounded to me like she wanted her character to continue and wanted to be a part of the cast.
I thought the ending was really well done
Spoiler: show
And how open ended they left it. Still wish Deb would have found out this season. Not sure why they are keeping quinn around. I hope they keep Sonya (Maria Doyle Kennedy) around. She is very talented.

I answered within the spoiler to make it easier

- They should have kept her around, at least a little while longer. It would have been nice to see that relationship expanded a little more

- Not sure what they're going to do with Quinn but if Deb ever does find out, it'll be interested what they do with that, especially since he never told her about his relationship with Liddy

Dexter spoiler
Spoiler: show
Unless they keep pushing Deb's character even further I'm pretty sure she'll just end up arresting him if she finds out. I think they left the Julia Stiles stuff open enough that she could come back next season. Her leaving definitely helps Dexter repair damaged relationships while not alarming people to the fact that he's in a serious relationship so soon after Rita's death.

Well it turns out that Stiles is a homewrecker and that Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter have split. So says gawker.com

We'll see if they're seen together first. Otherwise, just sounds like ridiculous gossip that she had anything to do with it

Just finished up Dexter last night. I thought it was a great season and ended really well. I did not like Julia Stiles' acting at all through the whole season, ugh! I really think it could have been much better with someone else.

I have GOT to start reading the books. I have the first one, but I never have time any more for reading!

Eh, there's certainly better stuff out there to read.

My fiance has read all of the Dexter books. She said the first is pretty good, while the remainder are simply 'meh.'

This season pissed me off. Didn't feel nearly as 'deep' as the previous seasons, didn't care much for Julia, and the ending was WAY too convenient.
Spoiler: show
Shit shoulda hit the fan between Quinn and Dexter. They should have left Julia's departure for next season. The only thing to look forward to in this show now is when Deb finally finds out what Dexter is, if they have the balls to actually do that.

I don't know, I just don't feel that 'need' to see next season like I did after season 4 was over. I know Dexter has been approved for season 6, but the season 5 finale felt like that decision may not have been made when this episode was filming, making it feel like they tied it all up nice and neatly just so there wasn't unfinished business if they got cancelled.

- See, I think one thing the books did really well was get the kids more involved and I think they tried to do that with Astor rebelling a bit. If you remember I think one of the books focuses on how he teaches the kids to become killers like him. Obviously Harrison is too young and Dexter's early therapy sessions made it seem like he didn't want him to end up like he is and follow in his footsteps but, I keep thinking that maybe he'll take Astor under his wing a bit and show her what he really is, either that or she'll get suspicious much like she did this season already and finally figure it out. I think the next season will be about expanding the kid's story line and Deb growing more and more suspicious. I think maybe even Quinn will try to cover something up and ends up getting caught.
