So I'm sure alot of you already watched Naruto 214, here's an alternate take on that episode(Starts @ :30 in). I think I would have prefered filler fight, vs the filler flashbacks, and this is quite impressive for amateur work with no budget to speak of.
I think Sakura had a flashback within a flashback in the actual episode, we are reaching Inception levels here.

Even though it was only 2 or 3 minutes long, I was a little annoyed at them repeating the same freakin' flashback 2 eps in a row. I skipped past that part

What struck me as odd, was that the flashback was actually reanimated. Like they decided to do filler of an old flash back, but instead of filler of an action sequence maybe drawing out Kakashi/Sasuke's fight(which could have been longer) they put the flash back in again(which wasn't in the manga either mind you) and reanimated it.

Honestly, I skipped by it and didn't notice. But the only reason I can imagine is like you said, to maybe retcon it (or Lucas-it) a bit to fit the current storyline a bit better.
