So i saw the commercial for the new Tom Cruise movie coming out and it looks like Bond meets Bourne only this time we get Cruise as the leading man. Does anything give two shits about this movie or Tom Cruise? I wish he would go away for good.

Sorry, his movies are too successful (even Knight and Day made decent coin) or he's gotten enough praise for his roles (Les Grossman, Jackie Staxx, and his role in Valkyrie) that he ain't goin' away anytime soon. If anything, he's made enough of a comeback to be considered a strong star again. Maybe not on-top-of-the-world level like before, but you can't deny his star power

The Last Remaining Scientologist.

I'll give them about 20 years and they'll be gone.

Ghost Protocol was the first fun Mission Impossible movie since the first one so there's no reason to be too ashamed.

You didn't like #3? It was a J.J. Abrahms flick, figured he could do no wrong with most people here....

Have you seen Revolution? I'm convinced he's only good at crafting good concepts and I don't even remember the third MI movie any more. Maybe I gave up after the second one and only watched Ghost Protocol because of the positive buzz.

Also interestingly enough Tom Cruise made the most out of any male actor according to Forbes in the last year or so. Something like seventy-five million which was twice what the two guys tied for second place made. I have a feeling he'll be here for a while.

But J.J. created Alias, Lost, Super 8, Cloverfield, and Star Trek on top of MI:3. You better not have hated all those or you may be osctracized for your opinions around here. Trust me, I know.....

Like I said, man, Cruise has made a huge comeback after couch-jumping and threatening Lauer. He's not diefied like he was before but there's no doubt he's still one of the most bankable stars out there. If I had told you 3 years ago that Cruise would be hot and Sandler would be in the middle of a slump, you'd have pointed an laughed. I think the fact that the action star is dead (some of the most successful ones recently? Bale, Damon, Cruise....not exactly traditional action guys) helps a bit since Cruise woulda looked real silly doin' some of those roles 15 years ago (Top Gun was not an action movie per se).

Alias turned to shit (great premise), Lost turned to shit (great premise), Super 8 was decent but nothing that I need to watch ever again, Cloverfield is decent but god only knows when the sequel will come out (fun premise), and Star Trek was decent enough to continue following the new franchise. There's nothing there that's crazy good like a Joss Whedon or something.

This isn't about hating Abrams, it's about not being super thrilled that his name is attached to something since they tend to tank. Movies tend to scratch the surface of being really good but never getting there. Revolution didn't even get the amazing first season that the Abrams name tends to provide. Hopefully that's because he's concentrating on Star Trek.

He did have a fun spot on Conan where he premiered the first trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie... About a quarter of a second of it. The funny part being he spend thirty odd seconds setting it up any way.

Sandler isn't in a slump - his movies still crush in DVD sales from what I hear (quick Google search didn't reveal much, but I'm sure I remember Adam Samberg praising Sandler DVD sales in an interview). Putting out 1-4 movies a year for a decade isn't what I'd call a slump. He's in as much of a reputation slump as any EXTREMELY active comedian gets to be in because of over-saturation.

I like the MI series 1, 3, and 4, along with Last Samurai, and Collateral.

From what you're sayin' there, Abrahms is on his way to becoming a new Bay or Emmerich. All he needs to do is release a couple of bad films in a row and you're done with him :-)

I'm joking, of course. He's worth more as a filmmaker than an underwear full of fecal matter. How much is personal opinion
