Seriously, what the fuck? This looks insane!
...Which means it will be totally awesome, or totally suck.

Can't be worse than the last one. Probably.

Someone on Reddit tried to break down what was happening... so who knows what is actually going on

"Oh, so young "Arnold" is literally the exact same Terminator from the original movie? And he's the one who gets intercepted by the older Arnold, thereby derailing the first movie right as it begins? And Kyle is the same Kyle from the first movie right until the moment he arrives in the past and it's a different past (because old Arnold has already changed it)? Do I have this right? Then, to escalate things further, a T-1000 or whatever got sent back?"

The trailer just confuses me...I dont think Terminator is even following its own time rules anymore..

Correct me if I am wrong, but by the end of the 3rd, it was shown that time is not alterable (so the machines were doomed to fail). Judgement day is NOT avoidable.

I dont want to be a full nerd...but you have to respect canon.

PS-I cant remember the one Bale was in...so maybe that changed something?

I thought the trailer was trying to say that since Kyle ended up being John Connor's father so the machines are trying to kill Kyle who was sent back in time in the past and then John Connor would never have been born. At any rate if time can't be changed then why are the machines even trying to kill John Connor? I know they say Judgment Day was going to happen anyway but if you go by that the machines would've lost anyway too.

As much as I liked the direction of #3 most didn't and it's not particularly well liked. And Bale was in #4 which occurred after D day, no going back to the past on that one. This is the start of a new trilogy they wanna get out before the rights revert back to Cameron in 2019 (35 year license starting in 1984).

After watching this trailer, they technically didn't break any rules. John is still doing what he's doing and making sure his mom doesn't get killed in the past. Skynet is still trying to stop the Connors in the past. The future is just where it's supposed to be. It' s just that there's an alternate past now that occurred, somehow, after the first Terminator (and likely the second) since Sarah is fully aware of the past and has one of the Terminator models with her (from #2 that she didn't destroy for some reason? Although that could be an alternate explanation for how Skynet came to existence and why there is a separate timeline now). And she's not dead from cancer yet so that means that it's before #3 and Sarah still thinks the future can be changed. Also, if you notice, John ain't nowhere in the past, another thing that allows it to not screw up #3. It fits, they just need to explain a couple of things (like how it occurs after #2 and Kyle Reese ain't dead).
