I thought we had a thread on this already? I couldn't find it if we did.

Anyway, great entertainment! The most entertaining of the bunch, although the first was so long ago now that I can't really measure it up to that experience.

It's kind of an update to the original Jurassic Park, but also a sequel at the same time.
Spoiler: show
Indominus reminds me a lot of the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3 in how it was massive, very stealthy, and shoulder-smashed through concrete and metal... That and a HUGE Great Jaggi, minus the frills, especially when it began calling the Raptors to its side. Unlike Spinosaurus, Indominus wasn't real. The name is also a little silly; as it is a mashup of the latin noun "dominus" which means master, and the latin prefix "in-" which means un/non; he's the non-master in other words.

The movie had some comedic and campy Lake Placid vibes throughout too. Every death was funny. Some of the stuff at the end was well past the border of ridiculous. The T-Rex vs Indominus battle had to happen - and it was spectacular! The Jurassic Park III battle between the male T-Rex and Spinosaurus was extremely short by comparison, the Spinosaurus just broke the T-Rex's neck, and moved on; Jurassic World was much bigger, and ten times more ridiculous.
$524.1 million dollars opening weekend, which puts it in a distant first for worldwide opening weekend. Number 2 is Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 2 at 483M, and a very distant third is Furious 7 at 398M.

I got around to watching this and wasn't impressed. I didn't find it to be a particularly bad movie but it just failed to move me in the dramatic scenes and it failed to make me smile during the humorous ones. In fact, I can honestly say the biggest smile this movie got out of me was during the SUPER OBVIOUS Volkswagen product placement which probably only made me laugh because of the recent news. Something along of the lines of "Do you want to see something really amazing?" *Cut to a Volkswagen car where the shot doesn't move and there's zero dialog for a good 3-5 seconds.

While I can confidently say that it was better than the sequels... just the memories of the feelings I had for Jurassic Park (which TBH I was never that crazy about in the first place) make this movie stand at a semi-decent second. Just too many cliches that I just wasn't in the mood to get into. The moody teenager. The smart younger brother. The workaholic semi-heartless woman. Chris Pratt as the lovable scoundrel. Just... enough. I'm willing to put some of this off on me not being in the right mood for this movie, but I wasn't in a bad mood either. I had lowish expectations and this movie didn't exceed or fall behind them.
