So who watched the Dragonball movie?

I decided to go to the theater to support it, and even though it's pretty cheesy it's surprisingly good. It's a refreshing break from the stuff that pretends it's complicated and deep that turns out to be dumb anyway. Sure the whole thing is just people beating each other up and yelling at each other but simplicity can be good too.

I saw it in the theater too, good crowd, fun movie. The dub was exceptionally excellent as well. I loved Frieza's new voice actor.

Oh yeah, there was a Dragonball quiz in the pre show and the guy was saying how this is hard, but honestly I thought this is pretty trivial stuff except for the number of planets Frieza has conquered before Namek which I don't think is available in the manga anywhere so I'm guessing it's one of those official sourcebook stuff. I only knew of Battle of the Gods via summaries and I still got the question on it correct.

You could have guesstimated the Frieza plants answer since the occupied # of plants as always fairly low and in the double digits I believe. I just assumed since Frieza planet 34 and Frieza planet 43 were mentioned they probably hadn't gotten around to 3 digits yet. :P

One thing I remembered is that while Dragonball is generally pretty mindless, you can see that people like Goku and Vegeta actually have strategy, like waiting for Golden Frieza to run out of power because they can tell that it's using up too much energy. Sure, some of that is still outside info but it's not exactly a stretch to say guys who are used to dealing with transforming would know if an opponent is using too much energy than what's sustainable. That's actually fighting with brains and some tactics, not "E=MC^2, you're dead" which is what a lot of people apparently think using your brain in combat means. In Azumanga Daioh, Osaka was talking about how what if Chiyo goes to USA and gets kidnapped, she should then use her super genius brain like they do in movies to fight back, and then get shot and die, and I think that's actually what should happen to most of the 'E=MC^2' fighting guys in their world.

Well I thought the most important part was
Spoiler: show
Apparently yes, those lasers all of Frieza's men are always firing CAN kill you if your guard is down! I wondered why his minions ever thought they had a chance, or why the Z Fighters were ever worried or fatigued fighting the fodder, but apparently in numbers even the grunts can pose a threat if they get the right shot off at the right angle!
Doesn't perfectly explain away all the power level inconsistencies, but I thought Frieza ran the point home when he said
Spoiler: show
"Here lies probably the strongest fighter in the universe about to die from being shot by a run of the mill blaster!"

Spoiler: show
Unless you're someone who can regenerate I don't think even the Z fighters are immune to piercing weapon types. I mean, Satan got shot by a gun and would've died if Buu didn't save him, and this is a guy who can take a punch from the original Buu and still live.

That's not true! In like the first couple of episodes of DBZ, Bulma pulled out a machine gun and shot Krillin & Master Roshi lol
