Fargo Season 2 - just my opinion, but, best show right now

It's started, but I haven't watched the premiere episode yet. Although, if it holds up to the first season, then this one should be a treat.

For those not familiar, each season is a contained story with a loose link to the organized crime in Fargo North Dakota; the seasons are self contained - season 1 was in 2006, while season 2 takes place in 1979. In terms of style, the closest show I can compare it to is Breaking Bad; in that it has suspenseful elements, and involves the descent of the protagonist down a dark path. Although Fargo has more dark humour.

Those familiar with the classic movie, but not the series, there are similarities, but I find the show is quite a bit tighter than the film - just my opinion though.

Lorne Malvo from the first season was perhaps the best TV villain I have ever seen, he's one of those villains you both love and hate - a notch above Gus Fring - Malvo is easily one of the most badass TV personas that's ever existed. Then there was Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) who played the anti-hero in season 1, and did a fantastic job - unlike Walter White, you really do grow to hate him by the end of the story.

Anyone start watching this one yet? I would guess you can probably watch season 2 without seeing the first season, but you really should watch the first season at some point.

I got a few episodes into the first season and I liked it a lot but just never followed up on finishing it.

Got through it. Was really good. I think the shows pace kind of lends itself to a marathon more than a weekly affair.

I was cheering for Martin Freeman but mostly because all the interesting shit was happening because of him. Kinda got tired of the law enforcement people even if their acting was fucking baller.

Was not Malvo the epitome of badassery?

Colin Hanks did a really great job, I felt for his character and his family. A lot of the suspense for me was on their behalf.

I began season 2, but I am going to hold off until December, and binge it. This show is more like a chopped up 12 hour movie; so I'm going to watch it like a 12 hour movie: after its all available, on the Christmas break, and over a period of about 3-4 days.
