In case you didn't know, Chris Cornell ended his life just hours after performing with Soundgarden Wednesday in Detroit. The confirmation that the death was suicide came yesterday afternoon.

I think a lot of us were gigantic fans of Soundgarden back in the day, they were one of the biggest bands of early 90s rock music. The very first of the Seattle grunge bands to sign with a major record label, paving the way for Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and other related bands like Hole, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, and Babes in Toyland.

Aside from Eddie Vedder (that we know of), all of the lead singers of these major bands (that I mentioned above) suffer(ed) from severe depression. It's a weird thing, depression; I've heard it described as being buried in a sack and not being able to see anything beyond, and so even people who seemingly have great lives with lots of potential from happiness are somehow cut off from that knowledge. Chris Cornell seemed to have been over his depression by the end of the 90s, but I don't know, I didn't really follow his career after Casino Royale. Either way, it's a very sad day; I wish I knew the exact reason he made the decision.

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington had expressed much grief over Chris Cornell's passing. Yesterday, on Cornell's birthday, he followed him in what is an apparent copycat suicide. He was 41.

I watched so many AMVs with Linkin Park back in the day, RIP.

Yeah, this honestly took me by surprised. I thought it was all a gimmick, I had no idea his depression was a real thing he was struggling with. I feel like a bit of an asshole for my assy assumption.
