This looks like the introduction to the beginning of a very black comedy.

The YouTube interview doesn't include the text you pasted below it. The text does sound very dark while the interview makes him sound like a new age guru type like Eckhart Tolle or Deepak Chopra.

I know he's been into eastern religions & philosophy for years now but maybe the death of his girlfriend in 2015 sent him deeper down the rabbit hole with this stuff looking for answers.

Haha, sorry. The text isn't actually Jim Carey, it's an adlib of Patrick Bateman's revaltory narration in American Psycho, by Bret Easton Ellis. I didn't intend to be deceptive, the bit just popped into my head when I saw that Jim Carey interview. Mostly, I found the whole thing a little on the disturbing side.

I didn't know this before, about his girlfriend. Apparently they had a nasty breakup, before her suicide by drug overdose, because she was really upset about contracting 3 STDs from him. She didn't break up with him, he broke up with her. Then there were lawsuits against him from her ex and her family over his part of the responsibility for her death.

Later I realized that must've been from American Psycho.

There's a chance the cacao he put in the coffee is code for cocaine.



Or he's a psychiatrist's dream patient.

The most striking thing about that interview for me was how old Norm MacDonald seems now. He went straight from his mid forties to his mid 80s. Jim Carrey is his usual crazy self but now he's incorporated new age babble into the mix. The stuff he's saying is pretty standard issue for new age teaching but seems bizarre coming out of him with his "turn-it-up-to-11" performance. It sounds a lot less strange coming from mellow teachers & gurus like Eckhart Tolle. They treat the subject matter with reverence & seriousness while Carrey is flippant.

I can relate, I went through a couple phases where I turned to new age teaching & eastern philosophy once after serious relationship issues & again after the death of my son. I read a lot of the same authors he read.
