  • Return of the King, Extended Edition Mini-Review: I honestly don't know why Peter Jackson cut so many of these scenes instead of others, in the context of the movie, a lot of these scenes were essential to the plot. This movie makes the theatrical edition

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Almost all of the additional 50 minutes added in was in the Aragorn portion of the story. Frodo's portion recieved a few minutes, notably a single scene where they dress as Orcs, the rest were some Gollum comedy, which actually fit in place uite well.

Almost all of the scenes in the other 48 (or so) added minutes were character and plot development, along with several iconic moments from the books. They took the existing scenes and connected them MUUUUCH better than they were in the theatrical edition. It makes the other existing scenes make more sense and seem much more in place than they did before; similar to what the two towers EE did to the movie. What surprised me was that there were a lot of expensive special effects scenes that were left out of the theatrical edition (a few parts in particular in the paths of the dead, which is a MUCH better scene now than before; it went from boring to very interesting).

Overall, the flow of the movie has been changed around quite a bit; it has a whole different feeling about it now; and it is for the good by far. It feels much more epic. It's a great movie, fans of the previous two Extended Editions should definitely pick this one up, it is the best of the three.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>On the Two Towers DVD he claimed that it was because the Extended Editions were too long for theater. I don't think he said anything about prefering them. Either way, the Extended Editions are MUCH better, especially the Two Towers and Return of the King which add in much crucial connection scenes</div>
