<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Yes, yes he does, which is rather the point. Roald Dahl's stories were always a little creepy.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>Indeed. This version is said to be truer to the book than the 1971 film.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>Depp should have done this about 5-10 years ago. He's starting to show his age.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>An older Depp seems about right. How old is Wonka supposed to be in the book? Besides, he's not that much older than Gene Wilder was when he played the part.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>Yeah, saw it again. Looks like one of those ladys with no cheeks, and what is up with those teeth? These are like faces of Depp I've never seen before.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>CatCF was really his only "pot smoking" book though. BFG, henry Sugar, Witches... they were all pretty standard childrens books.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Take another look at them. The Witches and Matilda in particular are kinda creepy. What Matilda experiences at home is basically child abuse, and in The Witches, you have a bunch of adults trying to kill a kid.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Tahoma; text-align: left; '>Doesnt seem too much different then, say, Harry Potter and other British childrens books. It is just the British style that our children find so creepy.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>I actually had Harry Potter in mind as another example of those themes. I don't think Harry Potter or Roald Dahl's stories are standard children's books.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>True, but for at least 2-3 books into it, it's not like anything truly bad happens.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Not "bad," it's just atypical to have kids in mortal peril on a regular basis in children's books, which happens in every book.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>Even in children's books, there must be conflict. The three main series I read as a kid were Cronicles of Narnia, Earthsea, and Wrinkle in Time series. All of those books featured drama and, yes, mortal peril. What books did you read?</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Also the Hobbit, but that didn't star kids. I could be wrong, it's been a long time since I read them.</div>
