Dream Theater: Master Of Puppets (Official Bootleg)

EDIT: They apparently have a number of "Official Bootlegs", including a cover from Iron Maiden,

Why would you want that?

Genuine question btw... never understood why somebody would want a ropey live version, especially when a Metallica fan could get (if they don't own already) Live Shit: Binge and Purge with 2 full video concerts and a triple live CD professionally mixed. And all played by the actual band too instead of a very competent but soulless cover band.

So, why would you want something like this? What appeals to you about it?

If you want some interesting takes on Metallica, and haven't heard of them already then check out Apocalyptica [ HOMEPAGE ] (they do Faith No More, Sepultura etc too) theres nothing quite like hearing 'One' played by 4 guys on cellos.

You could also check out the MTV Icon performance for Metallica to see Avril Lavigne, Staind, Sum41, Limp Bizkit etc do some very good covers of top songs from their work.

Huh, what? I thought DT did a rather nice cover of MoP.

You must be joking. I would never stoop so low as to check out anything on MTV :P

hehehe

Im not saying t it was bad in any way. Its actually a very good cover, but it's still a cover... with some slightly shifty live level recording.

My point was more that (to me anyway...) there are more interesting things than straight covers, and much better quality live recordings, so why this one?

As for MTV, fortunately, thanks to the wonders of the net, you never need to actually watch it (thank God) The Icon stuff was good, and is findable on the net without having to sully yourself with MTV.

The main reason for the interest is Sine and I are huge Dream Theater fans. It's not really the fact that there is yet another band doing some Metallica covers...it's --Dream Theater-- doing Metallica.

I'll have to check that out.

Thanks for the linky.

I like DT so this should be cool.

Yeah, if you're not familar with Dream Theater, I'd highly recommend Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance. Their newest album Octavarium is really good, too. (They also have a killer live set, Live At Budokan, with a lot of great extended songs.)

Well, they don't have to be mutually exclusive :)

I just like covers in general. It's interesting to hear another aristic interpret someone else's work.

I've been a pretty casual Dream Theater fan. I think I'll pick up Live at Budokan. $25 is a great price for 3 CDs.
