The fiance just picked up a copy of Yakuza today after reading comparisons drawn between it and Shen Mue, which she loved. I'm only a couple of hours into it now and I'm not sure how apt those comparisons are, but it's kickass in its own right. The combat is fun and it has a strong narrative so far. My only complaints are the barrage of cutscenes and fairly horrendous and frequent load times.
