It's fucking stupid, this non-compatibility of guitars between the game. The only people who lose are the consumers 'cause of the insane costs of these things.

Well, Harmonix CLAIMS it doesn't care. It also benefits them greatly to have the GH guitars, a much more established franchise, support Rock Band, the one trying to get going. Well, they said they submitted a batch for the idiots who bought a PS3 THEN bought both GH3 and Rock Band for the system only to find out that not only will they be missing out on the downloadable content for a time being that's on the 360, they wouldn't be able to use the GH guitars in Rock Band like their counterparts with the superior system and intellect.

According to them, they released a patch that was supposed to come out last week but Activision ain't allowing it to come out. So, not only does the consumer lose 'cause they bought a PS3 instead of the 360, they also can't have full compatibility with the guitars either. Nice.....

Yeah, screw Activision. I was already sure I wouldn't be purchasing another GH game (unless some major improvements were made), but this almost makes me want to boycott them. It's just a jerky thing to do. Harmonix did the work to fix a problem that wasn't really their fault and Activision throws a hissy fit.

It just proves that Activision doesn't care at all about the consumer. And the funny thing is that I'm sure there are a ton of people who would buy a Les Paul because there aren't wireless Fender Strat's yet. Now that won't happen. So they probably are just hurting themselves and giving themselves a worser name.

That's the point I was going to make. Since PS3 owners can't buy another guitar for Rock Band (although they COULD call EA and say their guitar is broken to get another one), Activision could be selling PS3 copies of GH3 just for the extra guitar. It makes no sense.

I believe they're commonly referred to as "pissing matches"

Yeah, I guess. Some bad blood between Harmonix/Red Octane since the split. Still, the more they try to one-up each other, the more it benefits me.

...since I'm not playing their games on a PS3 anyway.

My reply was accidently posted in this thread. My opinion on Rock Band and Guitar Hero? If I had one, it was over a year ago, I'm not really interested in the series anymore. Though on sales, clearly, Guitar Hero is demolishing Rock Band, the next NPD sales will show that.

Well, yeah, as indicated in the link below

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?optio ... 1&Itemid=2

But like I said, that's expected. Rock Band moving 382,000 units in November (10 days) is amazing considering probably half of those are the $170 bundle. Just because GH is slaughtering it right now don't mean Rock Band is a failure. Far from it based on the numbers.

Well, Activision has responded basically saying "they need to negotiate with us on a patch"

Translation: fuck the consumer unless MTV/Harmonix gives us money first

Ah, that's a lot more than I thought it was, I thought it was in the area of 150K. I wouldn't consider 382K a failure at all.

You sheep will continue to buy all matters of Guitar Hero and Rock Band games and guitars and drums for as long as they continue to put them out. Does a Pokemon nut buy Pokemon games? Does a DDR nut continue to buy/play DDR?

"Whaaa! My $170 game isn't compatible with my $70 game. I -HAVE- to have all the guitar games, but between my crack habit and my guitar video games, I've ran out of money! I even bought the 80's edition, even though I hate 80's music! Whaaa!"

works with the 360, and I don't see anyone around here who is interested in the ps3 version, so this is lame, but affects no one here.

Not all of us actually pay full price for these games or HAVE to buy the other just for the extra guitar.

No, no I won't.

Yes, yes I will. :)

It has more to do with the fact that GH3 = crap and RB = monstrously fun. I'll pay attention when GH4 is announced, but I won't buy it at launch unless Neversoft/Activision makes it a lot better. And I mean a lot. This whole thing with the guitar just gets on my nerves.

GH3 isn't crap, Lox... you're crap!! The way I'm hearing it is that GH3 is better single player, RB is better multi.

I'd disagree there even. GH3 is harder in terms of note count and some of the layouts, but RB's notes flow better and feel more in line with the actual music. From what I've read, the reason for that is that GH3 tends to add superfluous notes and mix the lead & rhythm guitar just to artificially increase the difficulty. I'm not a musician, but it definitely felt less like a guitar simulator and more like a game of hitting colored circles in a pattern. TBH, I wasn't super happy with GH3 before I played RB and now it'd be like torture to go back. (and battle mode sucks...oh my does it suck)

On top of that, RB's presentation blows GH3 out of the water. The animations and character movements are awesome. It feels like you're watching a live concert.

I actually went back and played GH3 again after the Halo theme was released and I was even more disappointed than when I first played through. The only reason I'll even put it in again is for "Knights of Cydonia" because I love that song. :)

Not to burst any bubble's, but I stand by my opinion. :) I'd rather play GH2 than GH3. I'd love it if I did enjoy GH3. Then I'd have 2 great games to play, but I can't live a lie. I CAN'T! *sob sob*

Oh, and YOU'RE CRAP!!!! :)

The series has always used lead and rhythm in single notecharts. The superfluous notes claim is certainly valid. Still, you probably just suck at it. :D

I'll chime in on RB when it's finally released here next week.

I suck at it just as much as I suck at GH2 (on hard+, that is). And actually I suck at RB in plenty of hard songs as well. :) haha

You're right about GH2 merging the note charts. My guess is that Neversoft just doesn't know how to merge them as well as Harmonix did. Something with GH3 just feels...off. Like how I noticed that the hammer ons/pull offs were weirdly placed (and sometimes useless or unrealistic) almost immediately. Little things like that just drove me nuts with GH3 whereas the little details in RB just make it even sweeter.

Trust me...RB takes the rock roleplaying to the next step. I'm having as much fun with RB as I had the 1st time I ever played a GH game (and the drums are sweeeet). I hope you enjoy it as much as me. If not, then it just means you're retarded. ;)

I forgot that you poor Canadians don't get it until next week!

On GH3 vs Rock Band, I find that GH2 and especially GH3 will arrange the notes and toss in chords just to make it hard when you get to the Expert level. It no longer is reflective of the music itself but done solely to the increase difficulty so Expert ain't beaten so "easily". Well, we are talking about one string and 5 frets, if you play the real music it ain't gonna be that difficult for most of the songs. They got mad that some people beat both Cowboys from Hell and Bark at the Moon from GH1 at 100% so they decided to make Expert THAT much harder just to make it a much more difficult goal rather than making it closer to the song itself. At least that what I notice but I only have grade and high school band behind me.

Once I have a fucking opportunity to play Rock Band I'll be able to see if they've made it more of a music simulator rather than a difficult game. If EA fucking delays it beyond next week, I'm going to never buy another EA game brand new again.

Sine, a 10/10 doesn't denote a perfect game. There has never been a perfect game that has ever been made. By your logic, no game in history should ever have gotten a 10/10, not even Tetris (someone try and find a flaw with that game, I honestly can't think of one other than maybe graphics). A perfect score denotes a game that is a step above the games of the time, the ones that are elevate the standards. To me, that would be games like SMB, FF6, SM64, Goldeneye, Tetris Attack......even Bioshock I can see 'cause it's really by far the best single-player FPS that I've played. It in no way means perfect, just better than the vast majority of the rest AT THAT TIME. Games, like all other forms of media, are a product of the times and should and can only really be judged by the others available at that time.

It's when we come back years later and still have a wild time with those games and they haven't lost much appeal that you KNOW they deserved the 10/10 rating.
