I can FINALLY play Rock Band

So this game just arrived in Canada yesterday. Of course, EB and their shitty distribution channels ensured that it came an extra day late. Pissed both Gray and I off something fierce since we've already had to wait so long for it....and they didn't even get enough to fill in half of their pre-orders (my bud had over 35 preorders at his store yet only got 14...and that's for the 360, he got no PS3 or PS2 ones....that's gonna make lots of people very happy). Gray got pissed off and just went to Toys R Us and got it yesterday rather than waiting a day NOT to get it at EB (he didn't pre-order early enough whereas I was #1 on the list, so he was screwed either way). If my bud wasn't a manager there and I wasn't getting it for the equivalent of $77, I would have gone to Toys R Us too.....

EA dodged a lot of lightning bolts up the ass. Now I gotta go and set up the drums so I play the game. First order of business? Download the Metallica track. 3 original tracks for $5.50? A shade expensive but they're three great songs so I'll go for it. I'm debating on the Police pack as well but I think I'll just play the game a bit first....

I hate EB and Gamestop. Sometimes i'm forced to go there, or it is the most convienent place, but i usually can find the hard to find games at the unknown locations, like Microcenter, CompUSA, or hell even Sears.

the girlfriend pre-ordered it in order to give it to me as a christmas gift, but as the release date hit, she turned out to be 11th in line and did not get one. So I have no idea when I'll be able to get my hands on it. She had good intentions, but her execution has produced no rock bands.

That's fucking shit. It's too bad she relied on EB, they suck that way. If she had walked into a Toys R Us on Friday morning she probably would have gotten one. But being proactive she decided to pre-order it in order to mitigate the risk of not getting one due to the rush. Her only mistake? Relying on EB. Lesson learned.....hopefully

It's great! Played about ten songs with a friend (me: guitar, him:drums) and it was much fun. Can't wait to play it with four people.

Unfortunately, it's Christmas Eve and everybody's got their own shit to do... so I'm stuck playing it by myself until Boxing Day.

It is awesome with 4 people. It's like having a real band only with plastic instruments. Now I just need to get a bigger TV (I'm thinking 50 inches!) to make it even better. haha

Have you tried putting anything on your drum pads to make them quieter? May not be a problem if you're not in an apartment, but I am and can already see wanting to turn up the volume to drown them out.

I bought a few CompUSA mouse pads for $2 a piece and cut them to fit. I want to get some craft felt to put on top to match the colors cuz it looks pretty ghetto at the moment.

There are some really cool mods out there using gum rubber and all kinds of other stuff. The mouse pads don't mute the sound, but they do turn the "clacking" into more of a "thumping" so it's not as annoying.

Not sure as I haven't tried any. I hear they do mute some. They also supposedly do a good job adding some rebound.

Not really. My friend brought over a pair of said sticks that he uses with his electric drums. It doesn't make much of a difference.

Dude, seriously, do some research if you're going to think you're Mr. Logic over here.

I'm a regular on the RB forums and people have tried everything under the sun to mute the sound. And your "logic" is actually dead wrong. They found that by applying pads to the drums (for a total cost of usually around $15), they could get a much better reduction in sound than modifying the drum sticks. Like I said, people have gotten some reduction from adding rubber (and many other things) to the drumsticks and it has increased rebound, but it doesn't muffle the sound nearly as well as adding something to the drums themselves.

Also remember that you don't want to modify the sticks in a way that changes the way they feel or their weight or balance. From that perspective, logically it is actually smarter to modify the pads themselves first. Some person doesn't know how to attack a problem apparently.

I'm not a professional drummer, but my cousin and i simply taped nerf like stuffing to the stupid things this morning and the weight difference isnt noticeable. The sounds is also virtually gone. *shrug*

The weight difference would mainly be my concern. If I had nerf stuffing, I'd give that a shot. How does it affect rebound and sensitivity of the drums? And what do you mean by "virtually gone"? Where do you even find nerf-like stuffing? No one who had tried some kind of wrapping for the drumsticks on the RB forums (bubble wrap to foam to whatever else) had very much success compared to modding the pads. You must have found the perfect material for the sticks themselves.

My mouse pad mod doesn't affect the rebound or "feel" of the drums and it was cheap and easy so I'll probably stick with that for now.

It came from a nerf ball (probably not nerf brand, which is why i called it nerf-life) that his dog had already torn up, lol. The rebound is less, but ive never played the real drums so i dont know what is supposed to be 'real' and could adjust just fine. The sensitivity seemed to work just fine.

I just dont like the idea of modifying the permanant part of the equipment, to be honest... coming from someone who takes really good care of their stuff, it doesnt sit right with me to glue things to the drums. Granted, it is his game, so i wouldnt care if he did it later.

Well, "real" doesn't apply here, because real drums are supposed to emit sound. Of course, why don't they make these drums like electronic drums? There isn't that much sound to those.

If it's done right, there shouldn't be an issue. I used velcro tape, for example, and I can peel the entire things off the plastic pads without any damage to the controller. Most other people are using stuff made for crafts and scrapbooking and have reported similar results. I know what you mean though. I wouldn't have done it if I thought it'd mess up the finish on the pads themselves.
