The learning curve for figuring things out is a bit high. Not really to figure out how the controls work (though that is one step), but just figuring out the enemies enough to not die every 5-10 minutes. Death is only a 15-second animation and you have to run a bit to your location, but it's a break in the action, and a loss of bonuses that hurt you.

In any case, it's a really fun game. The combat system seems to be pretty effective. Equipment comes at you a mile a minute, but at least the item cap is aided by a auto salvage mode, so it's no where near as bad as Mass Effect on item management. (You still have to check on your equipment for upgrades every 10-20 minutes, though.)

I'm going to pick it up when it comes out over here. I hope it clicks with me.

The only thing I didn't really like was the camera in the demo, but hopefully that helps more than it hurts throughout the game.

I probably would have picked it up already if my Xbox wasn't in the shop, but it is scheduled to return to me Thursday... I just don't know if I'd rather wait for The Force Unleashed to come out in 3 weeks or not.

It's a good game from what I've played so far (finished the Ice Forest Level).

It's a better Diablo-clone than KUF:CoD for sure, but I guess that isn't saying much. I got used to the controls and the camera works fine. I do have one major gripe that stops the game from being "excellent" in my opinion:

What a false tease the greyed-out Character Creation option was in the demo. You don't create shit, you just manage your active characters. I fully accepted that we couldn't change Baldurs appearance, but not being able to create a Baldur with unique stats & skillsets (even if needing to be unlocked ala Mass Effect) is nothing short of lame and really kills my desire for multiple playthroughs.

Maybe it's not fair to be annoyed by the lack of a feature that was never really promised - but I know I wasn't the only one that expected it (hell, fans were releasing creation/generation tools on TH official forums pre-release and the devs never set em straight). Without that, I just feel like a generic walking suitcase for random generated LEWT....

Gamespot apparently hasn't lost the guts to slam high profile games, they gave it a 5.5 out of 10. That doesn't necessarilly mean you won't have fun with it though, but they didn't seem to like it.

I am wondering if it would have done better had it come out on the PSX or N64 as originally planned, or even the Gamecube? It has been in development for as long as this site has existed. The team is talented, they did a lot of good stuff with with Eternal Darkness that I don't think has ever been seen in a game since. Eternal Darkness was plagued with some generic portions in the gameplay however. It was like an average game with a lot of awesomeness throughout... but Gamespot loved Eternal Darklness to death, it was that site that made me really interested in the game in the first place.

Well, Kali, most of the customization is in the armor. You can dye your armor which is rare for a non-MMO. Depending on the helm, you don't really see the characters face, except in the cutscenes.

Also, I think a 5.5 is pretty harsh. That kind of score doesn't usually mean "average", and from what I've played so far, it's a better than average game. Certainly better than Diablo 2, which I played for about 2-3 hours before getting really really bored with it.

I think Gamespot is just giving the score for "shock value", because of that whole firing debacle. Hell, I'd trust Game Informer's reviews before I trust Gamespot.
