  • If you thought last years' November sales were huge

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

This one puts them to shame. 800k Wiis in one week, 1.4M in a month. 800k 360s and 400k PS3s for the month too. Last year, the DS sold 650k in the week alone and something like 900k for the month so if it's anywhere near that, it's gonna be an insane month for the gaming industry

DS and Wii both sold 800k in the US, both breaking the previous record for the week by a considerable amount; set by the DS last year.

Since when does that mean people stop buying stuff? It's CHRISTMAS, and this is a Recession, not a Depression. You got a good 6 months to go before people start having to choose between food or shelter.

Previous November sales record for the home console market:
1,300,000 PS2, 470,000 Xbox, and 440,000 Gamecubes. Total = 2.21 million consoles sold.

This year records were shattered for November, it was: 2,040,000 Wii, 836,000 Xbox 360, and 378,000 PS3. Total = 3.254 million.

In addition, DS sold another 1,570,000 million units, followed by the PSP at 421,000.

PS2 sold an additional 206,000

Grand total = 5,451,000 units of hardware sold in November for the US; WAAAY higher than any November before. That's a lot of hardware sold.

Nintendo systems alone broke the previous record...wow.

I'm curious when Sony will finally wake up and realize they're getting slaughtered. Sure they need to minimize losses now but this is short term gain for long term pain mentality. Do they honestly think they're going to just take off so much when they drop to $200 that they'll kick that much ass for 5-7 years to shoot past both the 360 and the Wii? Dumbasses

I gave them enough credit to say that they would eventually be the winners in this generation 'cause I didn't think they'd be so stubborn with their pricing in the wake of getting beat up by the competition (Wii sold twice as much in a week than they sold PS3s in a month in November). Has no one learned from Nintendo's stubbornness in the past? All they're doing is letting the competition back in the game when they had a dominating lead.

I have always said that I think Sony will at least get into the compitition. I never thought that they would take the top spot in this generation with how rough of a start they got off to, but at this point I am wondering if they will ever even get into the compition. If they don't want to completly tank, they have to do more than advertise that PS3 can play blu-ray and they need to have more big exclusive titles. Right now the only game out that would get me to buy a PS3 is Disgaia 3. They really need to increase their library.

I think a lot of people did see the disaster Sony was heading into at E3 2006. I do remember a discussion at some point discussing whether or not this would be the biggest colapse in the gaming industry since Atari.

With no signs of a price drop in the forseeable future, massive downsizing, and Sony stating that there are no plans for a next gen PSP, it is anyones guess where SCE is heading in the future.

I don't know, Mac. Their library ain't THAT bad. They have arguably the best game of this generation (MGS4) and although their exclusives ain't quite as good as the 360's (they don't have Left 4 Dead, Gears, or Halo), they still get a ton of the big games and they do have some very good exclusives like Little Big Planet. There's more than enough to play on the system.

At this stage, I think it's all about the Benjamins. They're simply far too expensive for the market and Blu-Ray ain't no saviour like DVD was. Remember when the PS2 came out it was the cheapest DVD player out there so you got the ability to play games almost as a bonus. It was like a nerd's wet dream come true and something even jocks would warrant a purchase of. As each day passes Blu-Ray gets closer and closer to LD than DVD; in other words, niche-only. And the PS3 ain't even the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there at all (hell, it ain't even the cheapest Sony Blu-Ray player).

It is very much a classic case of a company over-estimating the value of the brand and being arrogant. They figure they can let the strength of the PS2 carry them through right now and when they drop the PS3 next year their sales will skyrocket and they will sell a shitton of systems.
