  • Fable 2 to try the episodic route

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

They give you the first of 5 parts for free and if you want more, you pay for it

This I like very much. You try the game for free, if you like it, you pay for more in smaller chunks. Of course, it will depend on the pricing of each of these chunks (I hope they're no more than 800 points) but that's where I think the future of episodic content/microtransactions are. Kinda like how they do it in Asia but not so petty (like not being able to cloth your character unless you pay). Not this pay full price of $60 for a game then pay to play it bullshit (stares at Blizzard).

Some of that has to do with being greedy, and some of that has to do with the large rate of month-old dropouts from MMOs. If they paid a mere $10 for a fully featured game because the user only played for one month, that doesn't seem to cover costs for development of that game.

How does it work in Asia, then? Seems to be doing very well over there.

In combination with microtranactions out the ass. You want to buy armor or weapons? You need real money.

Koreans also have a much higher rate of long-term players.

Yeah, I know about the microtransactions. But you get to play for free. Then you pay a few bucks here or there throughout the game. I'm OK with that, it's only when you get hosed on both ends that I don't like (pay to purchase then pay to play).
