I think Expert mode will only be accessible with a new guitar that has a sensor to ensure it is placed on the ground and you play with your feet. Otherwise the songs would be waaay too easy

I guess this is the new format now: put out the shittiest and most famous bands out there to make metric shittons of money.

Wake me up when Rock Band: Dream Theater comes out.

American Idiot was an amazing album. I had never really paid attention to Green Day before, but two of my friends whose taste I trust completely told me it was amazing, and they were not wrong.

Those guys do not know how to play an instrument. They are honestly the least talented band I have ever heard. You ever head the guitar in ANY of their songs? They know about 3 power chords.....that's it. That 3 year break they took? It was to learn the 4th power chord to add to their arsenal, increasing their musical proficiency by 33%. I wish I was exaggerating but the sad part is, as ridiculous as all that sounds, it's hardly a stretch.

Their popularity epitomizes what I hate so much about music nowadays. It's all about "meaning" (makes me chuckle; no band to come out in the last 20 years could touch the lyrics of yesteryear....and I don't even pay attention to lyrics in a song) and style with absolutely zero substance. I require at least a minimal level of musical ability in my music and these guys are nowhere near the bare minimum requirement. And before you go off on "ITS JST UR PRSNL BIAS, ZOOS!", I despise the music of The Tragically Hip but they are a very talented band musically (I call them The Tragically Shit 'cause it's only my personal taste in music vs their style that makes me not like them).

Sine, Rock Band did The Beatles before this trash. It's basically like the complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Love 'em or hate 'em, if there's any rock band in history that deserves their own music game fully dedicated to their music, it's The Beatles. The only other dedicated release they had was for AC/DC Live which is easily one of the best rock albums ever. They needed to scrap the absolute bottom of the barrel with some of the worst music ever to gain popularity in order to balance it out. Give them a mulligan on this one, they get to do one release in their history purely for money even if it completely blemishes their great record so far. Everything else Harmonix has done with the music genre has been excellent starting with Frequency and the original Karaoke Revolution.

And yet, American Idiot was one of the best cohesive albums I've heard in a few years.

At least you don't disagree with their lack of telent....

More detail on what exactly you mean by "cohesive", please

That's because you're a punk fan. I would prefer a band like Radiohead or Tool to get their own series, but that's never going to happen because they are as massively popular as the bands they will continue to hit.

But, that's really not the point. The point is that the old games had a variety of songs to choose from, so that you could invite a bunch of friends to play different songs. You didn't have to make sure that everybody was a Beatles fan, for example.

Don't bother. Punk has a more minimalist sound to it, so it's more about composition with the limited set of chords and notes. At least he isn't praising Offspring or something.

People like us like more complex music. But, then again, I'm talking to the AC/DC fan here...

Sine, I want his view on what he mean by "cohesion". I'm not necessarily saying that there needs to be complexity, I often prefer music that's not overly complex. Hence my love for AC/DC which is generally the same sounding music and relatively basic aside from some excellent solos by Angus. Same reason I can enjoy a number of Bon Jovi songs. But their songs are so similar you can sing three consecutive chorus lines from three different songs and they sound perfectly fine together. Not complex but still fun music.

To me, music is all about the enjoyment of the sound mixture. I honestly couldn't care less about the lyrics. But my goal was to eliminate my personal bias (remember, I think that Green Day epitomizes everything wrong with music today) and just find out why Kup liked it. He likely has a good point I just can't quite tell what he means. Hence my request for clarification.

Beatles' music is generally OK to nearly everyone, loved by many. And with the diversity in their music (look how different Sgt Pepper is over everything else) you're likely to get the vast majority of people to have nearly as much fun playing the game as other version of Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Particularly with the three-part harmonies which I think is an awesome idea. They need more of that in those music games same with a nice selection of rhythm guitar which they seem to ignore a lot in favour of the bass, which I just don't get.

Please, get off your high horse. I also listen to "complex" music - Tool, old school Metallica, Darkest Hour (a death metal band I've brought up here before). I don't like just one genre or style of music.

Zeus, what I mean by cohesive is there are repeated lyrical and musical themes throughout the songs. It is not just a bunch of independent songs strung together.

That's exactly what I love about the Bat Out Of Hell albums. They sound like soundtracks to a rock opera and have very similar themes throughout. Steinman does an excellent job of really giving cohesion to his albums.

Cohesion is a very nice thing. I like it when you go from one song to another and it sounds like they're all related. Gives it a more "epic" feel and actually makes you listen to the whole album as opposed to just a song here or there. Older Metallica albums (ie. pre-Load; aside from Unforgiven II from Re-Load which was a sequel song) and a lot of 70s rock really seemed to have that going as well (like the Zepplin albums). You discover a lot of music from the band when their album is more cohesive.

So, basically, you're a fan of the sound they have on this album and the fact that they're cohesive gives you that extra enjoyment and depth? Yeah, I can see that since I have the same reaction to some albums myself.

Yes, I knew that. Maybe my comment came off wrong.
