This game is pretty damn cool.

It's a fairly different take on a Castlevania game. Yes, you are fighting bosses, killing monsters, and collecting weapons. But, the whole game is geared towards multiplayer play. You get a choice of five characters, each from previous games. You have a shared inventory, and can sell items and buy from the shop. But, unlike other games, you're really just trying to beat the boss within a 30 minute timer. Each of the 6 levels has various mazes to get to the boss fight, but you also have a "full screen" view to see the whole map, and various zoom levels.

In multiplayer, you help each other in getting to the boss and defeating him. There are many enemies on the way, and various chests. All treasure is shared, as long as you're alive. After the 6 levels, you have a Hard difficulty and another harder one (probably Insane). Jumping into the multiplayer games can be confusing and you might seem like you're underpowered, but after a good session of several levels, you can get some really good items and gold to upgrade to better armor and weapons.

That's not to say that the Hard difficulty isn't hard. Your standard floating ghost can do 70 points of damage with one hit and decent armor. Even zombies need good weapons to kill off in a few hits.

With the five characters, you have a lot of variety in weapons and styles. There is Soma with his weapon system and magic collected from souls, Alucard with weapons and his own brand of magic, Shanoa with her glyphs, Jonathan with his whip and martial arts, and Charlotte with the spell books and the ability to steal magic via projectiles. Soma and Alucard can share weapons, and everybody can share armor/items (except certain male/female related ones). Not sure yet if some people can share souls.

Anyway, check it out and buy it. It's a great game, despite some of the lukewarm reviews I've seen on it.
