Yesterday I was looking through some stuff and found what appears to be a generic cheap turn based RPG. Turned out it was made by Square Enix so I looked it up and it's only available on the Android/IWhatever in Japan, and then I looked up Square's site some more and found that's a pretty common theme. I think they got Final Fantasy Tactics on some kind of mobile platform there too but not for the PC.

But what exactly is the point of this? What does developing a title for a mobile platform get you? Capability? Larger market? Easier to develop? I mean we're not talking about niche games that really are playable while on the go. You're not going to get very far in Final Fantasy Tactics if you're only playing it while you're in a mobile location. We're talking about games that need a solid 20-50 hours to finish so you probably spend a lot of time playing at a staionary location. How can the PC possibly be worse than a mobile platform? It's more platform and I'd say for most well established gaming genres, it's more likely your target audience has a PC than a mobile device, just because almost all serious gamers have a PC. At any rate I doubt anyone's going to specifically buy a IPhone for the next Megaman game, and yet there's a Megaman game being developed for IPhone and I sure don't any Capcom games on Steam. This seems rather backwards. Looking at the screenshots in the IPhone game this looks like something 2 guys could've developed if you already have the artistic assets (music/art). Why settle for such limited capability when the PC market is easily reachable?
