  • So how much do you think it's gonna cost the first year or 2?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>We all know it was going to a set-top box, this is just the next step, unfortunately. I like console systems, they have personality in and of themselves. To have a DVD/CD/VHS/game/PC set-top box is just silly IMO</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>They've said that about every console to date and it's been proven over and over again that consoles only have a 5-year life cycle, 6 for some of the older ones (NES is an example)</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "Fine Hand"; text-align: left; '>7 years for PSX.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>PSX - released in June, 1995; PS2 - released in October, 2000. ALL consoles have games that trickle out for them long after they've died (NES was 'til 1994, if I'm not mistaken), but I was referring to how long before the next gen one from the same company comes</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "Fine Hand"; text-align: left; '>But life cycle to me refers to its death. When PSX sales a few months ago exceeded Xbox sales, that tells me that it wasn't quite done with its life cycle.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt ; text-align: left; '>Ummm, that logic sucks. I think when the sales slow down to a crawl and the hardware is no longer profitable to develop for is when the console is dead.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>That doesn't work. Didn't CC and FF9 come out when the PS2 was already out?</div>

<div style='font: 11pt "Fine Hand"; text-align: left; '>Yep. I was playing FF9 on the PS2. And I recall PSX sales were still relatively lively when PS2 consoles were rare at the time.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Nope. FF9 and CC came out the summer before the PS2</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Well, not dead, per-se, but there's a reason they release another console within 5 years, as was the case with the PS2. PSX was at the end of it's life cycle, even with a year or so left in it (it beat XBox thanks to it's price difference) of good sales.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>I concede I used the wrong terminology. It's when the previous console has reached the END of it's life cycle. I mean, the NES was still selling into the N64 days (the top-loading ones)</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>G-Man's right about the release of the PS2. Are you sure? I had my store at the time and I recall receiving all the promotional stuff for the big Square summer games: CC, PE2, Threads of Fate, and FF9</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>The point is the PS2 was released 5 years after the PSX, not 7 years after. I thought the argument was when the release of the PS3 was going to be?</div>
