  • I got myself a PS2 yesterday

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 10pt "Stylus BT"; text-align: left; '>I've already picked up FFX. For $29.99 brand new I didn't think I could go wrong, but I haven't actually started playing it yet. Or rather I did start to, but at about the part with that giant ball of water I began to lose my patience for the game part of that game to get underway, and well, I've been playing Amplitude ever since.

I did like FF7 for the most part and FF8 I've never played. Being an RPG I can't see myself disliking FFX.

Devil May Cry has my interest and I think I want to buy or at least rent one of those games (2 is the better one I imagine...). Kingdom Hearts is supposed to be really good albeit short, but I will definitely pick it up if I see it at a good price. Otherwise I'll rent it. Suikoden III will be a definite buy =).

And oh yeah I need to make sure to check out Contra. To think, with all that time I've spent playing Super C, I could've instead learned a couple of new languages or perhaps become a Wing Chun grand master.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "Stylus BT"; text-align: left; '>If the game's about juggles then it's not an expert's fighting game. And while I can't really comment about the balance in VF4, it's virtually nonexistent in Tekken 4...</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>I've found Tekken 4 to be the most balanced of all of the Tekken games. They cut back the characters, retuned the strategy/control (like the different method of blocking), added some innovative characters (like Steve), and there's not a bad character in the lot. Hell, even Kuma kicks ass.

If you don't like Tekken or VF, which fighting games DO you like? The Street Fighter series, while good, is not all that complex. (The exception being the Marvel vs Capcom series.) Most of the characters have about 10 moves, there's no juggles, and the combos are two or three chains no-brainers.

And what I mean about the game being about juggles is that it's the meat and potatoes of the game, as well as combos that aren't exactly "in the book". The two games are NOT about throwing canned combos over and over again. And despite having 100+ moves per character, you actually use a good chunk of them. (Some moves do suck, but they are good for throwing in the mix to catch your opponent offguard.) The throws are also good, as are the juggles. You can chain combos to make it look like one big combo. (Nina is very good at this.)

There's quite a bit of hidden strategy in the game. I've experienced this first hand at a national tourney. I saw people do shit I've never even heard of, and they would punish you for EVERY wrong move, even if it was a whiffed little punch.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "Stylus BT"; text-align: left; '>But that doesn't say much at all.

I play just about every other fighting game, including other 3D games..... just not VF or Tekken. My friend is a Tekken god... going around winning the tournies in Ontario and Michigan (I do the same thing with various Capcom fighters), but anyway I have this same conversation with him a lot. And while he sees a little more depth than I do in Tekken 3 and 4, we at least agree that it doesn't touch the kind of gameplay in for example Third Strike.

I actually play a fair bit of Tekken in the arcade with this guy (I would never actually buy the game though). VF4 I seldom play.</div>
